the main reason i think i’ve stuck w fixed axle so long is the meditative component. not be weird/esoteric/preachy, but it’s restorative and grounding in a way that isn’t accessible through mainstream 1a for me. (prob why even my unresponsive playing takes on a fixed flavor). i don’t know if it’s the rhythm or the silence or the fact that if i’m not present the trick fails pretty much immediately… just kinda grateful it all works.

My favorite beginner fixies are the Manta Ray and Legend Wing both around $10. Both have wood axles if you’re looking for that.
