Sick thanks so much! I’m already in the YYE and CLYW discord but not the G2 one! Ty for the info!
Hi all,
I recently rediscovered my wooden Yoyo that Santa brought me in the 80’s. It was all I could do to get it to sleep for a few seconds back then and after ordering new strings this summer it was all I could do to get it to sleep a few seconds again. I’ve now used it enough to feel I’ve “earned” a modern Yoyo to see what else can happen.
I got a Crystal K2 and can’t believe how it just automatically sleeps! What a time to be alive. So now I’m learning new tricks before moving on to attempt unresponsive.
Thanks for letting me into the forums.

Hey everyone, I’m the Snorlax, I’m getting back into the hobby after over 20 years hiatus, and to be honest with all the changes in this world I’ve discovered I feel new all over again. This forum has helped me immensely since I got back onboard about a month ago, so I just decided I should join. Wow, has the hobby grown since the 90’s early 00’s when it was my thing and for the better I’d say, was just a tad overwhelming at first. Back then I was a looper and whilst I’m re learning some of that end, the 1a string tricking has me hooked now. Working my way thru the “first 50 tricks” on a tutorial app I discovered atm, which has been a huge asset to me. Health problems have given me lots of free time and stress that throwing my YOYO has helped me deal with TREMENDOUSLY. Anyways ain’t tryna ramble, thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum. What was your yo-yo back in the day? What are you throwing now? Sorry to hear you’re having troubles but glad to hear that yo-yo has helped.
Had a few favorites back then, early on the black mamba and fireball were my go to’s, and most notably the raider and became my primary pick as I progressed, I rarely left for school without it. Budget is an issue for me right now cuz the medical stuff, but currently have a lightly modified butterfly XT that’s performing pretty nice, and a fireball from my past I still had that I cleaned up and lubed for looping. A couple new ones on the way to me, a hornet and a maverick, Xmas gifts from my fiancée who is also getting into the hobby for her first time. It’s fun learning together. (Thanks btw, I’m slowly getting my health sorted out, kinda came out of nowhere)
You are not alone in that.
I’ve been away from yoyo’s for over 25 years and am getting back into it. Wooo have things changed! Got my first nonresponsive yos- the Duncan Windrunner and Luftverks Stelvia.
I want to learn this new style and I’m searching for some new retired yos that have dropped. Hope to learn a lot and contribute to the forum! See y’alls around!
I’m old school - Golden Apple Comics era, IYKYK haaaha. Perhaps I belong in that boomer section! Haaha see y’alls around!
welcome back yo!
The secret, that some people will never realize, is that everyone belongs in that boomer section, regardless of age, skill level, how long they’ve yoed. I hope you’ll join us!
Welcome back!!!
About me:
My names Josh and I’ve been into throwing off and on for my entire life. Grew up on the west coast, and over here the yoyo guys that were coming to schools were called the Ned show. I was able to see them twice, and the second time they came I got a DVD, 2 yo-yos, and a pack of string. One of the yo-yos had a bearing (a super yo triple spin, I think) and after that I didn’t use any other yoyo. The yoyo phase lasted for maybe 3-4 months, until the bearing seized. I remember it happening at recess, where the yoyo bounced at the end of the string and came up so hard that it hurt my hand, but every time after that the bearing wouldn’t spin.
Fast forward 15ish years to the pandemic, I was dating my now wife and she had a fast 201 from when she was a kid. I started playing with that, did some loops, flip flops, ufo, and I thought “what the heck, I could probably get another yoyo for pretty cheap”. Using the brand on the fast 201, she ended up buying a yyf velocity and I used it for a short bit, and then I bought yyf’s beginner to pro kit. I loved praying with the arrow, as it was what I was most familiar with and easily the best/most forgiving yoyo I had played with up to that point. Learned trapeze, trapeze and brother, brain twister, bind, and plastic whip, and a few others, but stagnated and was just comfortable yo-yoing for 15-20 minutes every few days doing all the tricks I could from that point. After teaching and starting a club, I’ve learned a majority of my unresponsive tricks from the skill addicts app, then yotricks, then yye, and really haven’t been able to connect any other throwers until this year. Current trick I’m learning is spirit bomb, I can get it 1 out of every 20 tries.
Favorite yo-yos:
magicyo y03 heartz
Yyf shutter wide angle
(I like these because it seems like when I’m learning a trick, I can switch to these yo-yos and for whatever reason I seem to hit tricks after switching to them)
Luftverk hybrid fulvia
Yoyofriends mini hummingbird
(Gifts from my wife)
About my school’s club:
My first year of teaching, I took my small collection of yo-yos at the time to school and breaking them out as a fidget for myself, a bunch of students wanted to see the dna, so I learned how to do a responsive dna pretty quickly, and the kids got hyped. A bunch of kids in the school started staying in during their lunch and recess to yoyo with me, and slowly an unofficial yoyo club formed. I ended up collecting yo-yos initially because of lost and found ones that didn’t get claimed so they ended up in my classroom loaner set, and also I bought some magicyos from amazon for me to learn about them so that I could have some easy instant recommendations for kids.
Fast forward another 2 years, and I was able to get a kit of yo-yos together thanks to the school and yye, and the club is doing pretty well. We meet once a week, and meet for a good chunk of the school year. The first year of the club was honestly really fun, but also super chaotic because 5 different kids would ask me different tricks to learn, and then another kid would have some sort of axle knot or something I would have to show them how to fix. Now, I try to structure it as much as possible, I give them a 1-2 new tricks a week, make sure everyone can do a proper slip knot, and I have contests for fundamentals, of who can do the longest responsive sleeper, or do the most loops, or flips. Next on my list is probably going to introduce them the fast challenge as well.
This year the school hired a janitor who was into yoyo as well, and having another adult at the club has been really helpful for the kids who are dead set on only doing unresponsive stuff, and me from having to switch yo-yos all the time. Last year I was using a replay pro from my 3 pack that I could crank a little tighter to making it responsive, and loosen it to make it unresponsive, (shout out to my students who would crank the yo-yos super duper tight) but it was honestly a hot mess and needed to be retired. Now I try to just use the responsive yo-yos from my yoyo club kit to improve my technique.
This story fills me with joy thank you for sharing and welcome to the forums!
Welcome to the forum. What an awesome story, it’s amazing that you are sharing yo-yo the way you are. Hoping to hear crazy stories in the future.
Hi folks. Started as a child in the very late 90s then 9/11 happened and priorities changed. In November I saw an “unresponsive” yoyo on Amazon and it piqued my interest. I bought that plastic Cheatcode since it was convertible. Upon receiving it I gobbled up YouTube tutorials I wish I had back then.
Suffice to say, things have changed considerably and I’m basically starting over. Finally managed to do offstring with a Viper Remix, then pulled out my ancient Viper with yellowing translucent “ice” Cobra shells and did it on that. It felt great.
It’s been an adrenaline rush feeling the power of bimetals (Brass Exia, chef’s kiss) but I’ve primarily been using a MagicYoyo V12 since it’s so much fun. After seeing 0A is a thing, I’ve gone to my old No Jive. Dabbled in looping. I’ve ordered counter weights. And thread. Trying to figure out if I can update my old Viper’s (lack of) response system. But I know I should stay focused on 1A fundamentals.
welcome back to the hobby, glad you’re having fun! @pyrotechnic does active mod work and may be able to help you with that

I’ve been hitting myself with yoyos for about 14 months now. I’ve grown a big heart for many people and companies in the community.
Yo-yoing has been a big outlet for me and was recommended to me by my therapist.
Learning new tricks or just throwing overhand binds for a couple of hours seems to put most troubles at bay temporarily.
Have a short story for the reason for this post.
My fiancé Kati was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer October 2023. (The same month I started yo-yoing) she grows granulosa cell tumors (type of ovarian tumors). But unlike most granulosa tumours, she grows them in her abdominal wall.
December of 23 we had 11 oncologist tell us that she needed to have a total hysterectomy to stop the hormonal hungry tumors. Having this done at her age of 32 was not what we expected. With only 11 reported cases filed, the doctors put all the options out on the table and this was meant to be the most effective. Or so we were told.
Start of 2024 she is almost finished healing from the hysterectomy and is on the road to “recovery “
January- bloodwork is good
February- bloodwork is good
March- bloodwork is good
April- bloodwork is good
May- bloodwork is good
June- bloodwork is good
July- bloodwork is good
August- bloodwork is okay
September- bloodwork is high
October- bloodwork is extremely high
November 1st- bloodwork CA125 levels are 47.3 times higher then normal (normal= 35-41)
November 14th- she has 4 new granulosa cell tumors.(found by biopsies)
November 28th- she had a debulking operation to reduce the tumor(s) size to <1cm.
At this point they removed 7lbs of cancerous growth.
December 10th- first of 8 chemotherapy cycles
((For her treatment, 1 cycle = 2 different chemotherapy treatments over 3 weeks.))
She goes in for her 2nd treatment today.
During the total of 10 hours that she has to get her treatment I bring a couple(27 to be exact )yoyos with me to keep myself (and most of the other people getting treatment entertained)
For those of you that don’t know, they make different colored support ribbons for different cancer.
Several of the nurses said “ Have you thought about getting a yoyo to match the support ribbon for ovarian cancer” I paused and realized that no, I have absolutely 0 of that color… as a short time collector, I have 228 different yoyos… but not one of that color.
At that point my beautiful fiancé said to me” you need to get every yoyo you can that is that color. Not sure if she was thinking right during this moment, but as a man who played vanilla wow in 2005 and had to grind mobs just to get from 57-60
Challenge excepted!
I have wrote all this just to ask for suggestions on yoyos that have this color and possibly if anyone has any that are for sale!
The color of the ribbon is a mid to dark teal.
If you made it this far I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Between work and making sure that Kati gets to all her appointments I don’t have time for social interactions and well…. Sometimes it’s 4am and you can’t let your mind simmer down
Hella love for all yal incredible people.
All the best wishes to you and your wife. I hope she gets better soon.
Sadly I am new, so can’t give you a hint.
Thank you!
And welcome to the community @Sven
What yoyo are you tossin?
Thanks for the welcome. I am on my second try at YoYo and on it for about a month now.
I am also in this forum for about a month.
I throw my iYoYo Shooting Star (The workhorse) or a modified Woodyo Fixie.
So my collection is 226 Yos short.
man what a story. so sorry for everything yall are going through but you both seem to be handling it with all the grace and dignity one can in a situation like that. all the love in the world to you both and here’s hoping yall can get back to normal life at some point
as far as yoyos go, there’s an mk1 exia that’s that shade. that color in that ribbon looks close to Scales colorway shade if you search that specifically. here’s a couple of examples. first is an UNPLD the second is the exia. sorry if it’s a little off, color matching isn’t my strength lol good luck in your mission
