A year ago I remembered the cool thing from my childhood called the yoyo, which I always liked but never got a grips on, at how to get the thing to do anything more, than just unroll down to the ground.
I had constant stress at my job a year ago (then and now). So I went on YouTube and fell down the yoyo-rabbit-hole (Nicely unrolling from a string, spinning fast and flipping back up at the end). Fell in love with the idea of a wooden fix-axle Yoyo, like the good old days. Went out, got a one single piece thing (the good old “woody”, if you know what that is?). Went home, trained, had fun, did not get far, got some proper strings, polished the axle to get it a better spin, it went barely better. Struggled on for weeks. And as you guessed: I gave up. I was basically disappointed, that this 6 Buck piece of wood did not catapult me to god-level-yoyo.
Now I am back. Stress is still here. Remembered my yoyo. Tried to fix it. Still failed (junk in - junk out). Went to my trusty acrobatics shop and bought a iYoyos Shooting Star. A butterfly yoyo with a bearing, which can be switched from a narrow bearing, noob mode (fer me) to a C-bearing for later days. The coolest part: It gets made by a small CNC-shop in Germany, which is in my part of the world. It is nice, I have to say. Overkill at the moment, but it’s already doing its job perfectly in every 10min break, getting my mind of complicated tasks and getting me some endorphine back.
I don’t want to obsess too much about it (there are many other things, I should and want to push), but I am looking forward to have a little something else to play with, that does not make or brake my life.
So now I am looking forward to learn from you peeps and be inspired to new tricks and challenges.
Whats up! Im new(though im almost positive i had an account on here YEARS ago).
Been throwing on and off for many years. I say im an old head but im really not that old haha. I just like to use it in terms of the fact that i really enjoy older throws. Theres just something special about them.
I love old throws but new as well. I have some recent throws produced within the past couple years and some that date back to the good ol 2010s haha.
My name’s Cupcake. Pretty new overall to yoyoing, picked it up recently when my husband (he is a member here too, The Snorlax) introduced me to it. I’m 38, but definitely not like, an actual adult type adult. I’m mostly looking forward to learning some new tricks and the thread with tips for throwing while seated has been a huge asset, I stand 30ish hrs a week managing a store and by the time I get home I just can’t seem to make myself stand, even to have fun, so I’ve enjoyed that particular thread quite a bit.
I seem to pick up the string tricks fairly quickly thus far, but I actually enjoy looping more, even though I struggle more with it. Current collection is: Duncan Freehand (the original one, made in 2003), Duncan Hornet, and a Duncan Butterfly that my husband has modified a bit for me. I’m hoping to add a Yomega or YoYo Factory looper into the collection soon.
