Thankfully even at a premium imperials are generally pretty cheap
Cherry finish Legend Wing from some people somewhere. The dark spots under the finish aren’t yoyofactory’s fault. The yoyo felt too light so I gave it a little bit of a soak in food grade mineral oil. They’re fading/dispersing through the wood over time.
(YO)^2 Dark Gem. It’s a screw-apart Duncan Imperial. What’s not to love? Each half is held together with two screws as well, opening the door for easy mods. Duncan, I know one of your well-funded fleet of yo-yo imagineers is reading this. You can have this one for free: Imperial XT. Sell them in Target for $5 please.
How well did this work? Would you recommend others to try it?
For a totally unfinished yoyo, some kind of beeswax blend (like Howard Feed-N-Wax) would probably be best. I’ve had good results with home-blended beeswax and coconut oil, but there’s a distinctive smell to it, which you won’t get with mineral oil.
I like wooden butterflies to have dense or laminated wood, and they do feel more solid to me after I apply some kind of oil. It’s easier to do than undo, so I’d say to first test it out on something you wouldn’t mind messing up.
That’s a beautiful yoyo. Did you make that one?
Thanks! Yes I made it.
I wondered who snagged that one. Good grab.
When I have my new workshop set up and a manual lathe, I will make more of these. The two I made are honestly some of the best fixed axles I’ve made.
Please make more Knack XLs too.
I love the wear and tear on that Camel! (and autograph) Very nice photo.
I wish I would have got the varial in the shot better and the flashier return I was going for, but hey, I’m just stoked I got it.
Thanks! This Flying Camel has had a lot of adventures - 1999 it was the only fixed axle competing against bearing yo-yos at the New Mexico State contest - it also tied for first place at a contest in Durango, Colorado - and has been known to have looped 384 times in preparation for an old school loop-off
I tried this one barefoot and would not recommend it
