The World Yo-Yo Contest 2015 Mega-Thread

That’s awesome! Thanks for the information.

I’ll definitely be going next time it’s in Europe then. Worlds '17 here I come!

last I checked they didn’t have a place yet so I could be in South America.

Michael Nakamura has a good shot at 4A. Zac, Ian, Ben, and Bryan all have a chance as well. 4A is where you’re most likely to be wrong IMO.

You’re not the only one. I personally really liked it; I thought it was very professional and polished. However, I have heard a lot of people say they didn’t think he should have won. I have no issue though; he put in the work and he obviously prepared well.

You have to realize that he is competing to win, which means he’ll use the highest scoring freestyle he can.

From an international standpoint it’s set for USA (organized by the NYYL under the authority of the IYYF). The NYYL is still determining the host city.

So I am in America, est and so I am 12 hours behind, right? Also are there any stream links to the contest for today 8/13 if so?

In Central Time, I ended up getting 14 hour time difference. EST is 13-hour time difference.

So now it is about 3 AM in Tokyo 8/13?

yes.

D’oh. Just searched “Time and date in Tokyo” in Google and it came right up. Whatever, it’s good to think once in a while :stuck_out_tongue:

1A: Begging Paul Kerbel wins, he came close last year and I think he can take it if he goes clean and does some good tricks.

2A: If Shinji competes he’ll win no problem. He beat Shu by 10 points at AP this year so I can easily see him win.

3A: Hijime Miura. That guy is a boss.

4A: Rei Iwakura. It would certainly kickoff his new C3 sponsorship.

5A: Tyler Severance. YOU CAN DO IT TYLER!

Player order for Thursday:

But, I am wondering: what do the numbers next to the player’s names mean?

Vashek is in the Wild Card Group 1 for 1A, at #22 in the line. Since the Wild Card is today at 14:00, and since every Wild Card round is 30 seconds, he should play at around 14:11. That means since it is 7:00 AM over there there is only 7 hours and 3 minutes left. That means in EST he will play at around 1:11 AM. Mental note so I know when to check ye old stream if I can stay awake

Good luck to all the Wild Cards today in Tokyo!

Um… they’re not live-streaming wildcard. Nobody is allowed to watch those. ???

I do not want to be a Worlds. With all the new bling that Yoyorecreation is releasing - it would cost me more than $1000 just to walk into the hall.

But I would LOVE to score a Valkyrie.

i want one too.

Is Inoue competing? I don’t remember seeing him on any of the freestyle lists.

1A: Paul Kerbel was a beast last year. It’d be fun to see him win but he definitely has to be cleaner than last year. Janos’ got some new stuff but his EYYC and Duncan IYYC freestyles were pretty dirty. So, idk. Lol. Zach’s a great bet I think. He’s been placing pretty consistently and he’s got the tricks to stack up against the big competitors. Takeshi dominated the Japan Nationals as I expected. He was pretty close last year so I think there’s a huge chance he could win. His freestyle this year got a lot cleaner and he has new tricks too. I’d love to see him win! Ky Zizan’s kinda in the same boat as Janos. Crazy crazy tricks but after the LVO, his cleanliness kinda declined. Andrew Maider been pretty consistent too! I’m rooting for him as well. I’m excited to see what Gentry has in store, he’s got some new tricks from what I’ve seen at CalState and the Orient Express videos. The competition’s pretty intense. Lol. It’s going to depend on who’s gonna pull the cleanest routine off I think.

2A: Takuma, Shinji, and Shu. Nuff’ said. I think the 2A competition will be revolving around them.

3A: Hajime’s freestyle at the Japan Nats was a bit dirty but his routine had promise if he hit it a bit cleaner. I think that also happened cuz’ he competed in 4A so maybe he might be able to focus more on 3A for Worlds. Tomoya Kurita beat Hajime at the Japan Nats. Hajime was also behind Minato Furata. So I think it’d be wise to keep them in mind. Hank Freeman just cuz. Patrick Bordgerding has some serious tricks but I’m not too sure if he could win.

4A: If Rei will be flawless as always, he might just win again. Lol. But Michael was just 2 points behind him last year even with a restart reduction. So Michael’s not too far from winning either. Jeon Ji Hwan, Tsubasa Onishi, Naoto Onishi, and Pornpinit Sanpraesert are other top competitors for me if they hit their routines cleanly. Takumi Yasumoto is another player I’m rooting for. And surprisingly, Paul Kerbel for 4A. I want to see what craziness he’ll be bringing to the 4A world!

5A: Most likely Takeshi unless Jake hits his freestyle extremely clean. If I remember correctly, Inoue’s not competing so yeah.

There are a lot of other players I’m watching out for that start at the Wildcards and Prelims! For one, John Ando’s gonna be starting from the Wildcards. It’d be cool if he could make it to the finals or at least semifinals. (Correct me if I’m wrong because I saw his name on the Wildcards list) Same for Eric Koloski. Toru Miyazaki, Kento Muraoka, and Hirotaka Akiba have some of the most unique tricks I’ve seen. I hope they make it to the prelims. Chris Makita’s another name I’m looking at. He has some great tricks and he’s helped to yoyo community a lot here in the Phils.

Tatsuya Fujisaka’s one of my favorite players out there so I’m hoping that he’ll place well. David Kreibich has this certain style that appeals to me so much so I’m watching out for him too. I really hope Kurti passes prelims. His PNWR freestyle was nuts! Definitely keeping an eye on Evan Nagao. He has some crazy tricks! I love Christoper Chia’s flow so I hope he gets through. Last but definitely not the least, Riccardo Fraolini! The dude has some of the most amazing and innovative tricks. I’m really not sure if he can pull it off cleanly but it’d be awesome if he does. :3

What about you guys?

1a: too many contenders, I just hope that whoever wins has a character, not a mere “copy”.
2a: Takuma Yamamoto
3a: never really into it
4a: Rei Iwakura
5a: Takeshi Matsuura
