New workshop looks nice!

I think you’ve sold me on a Superman half swap.

Put white string on that thing, stat!

The white string I have is rubbish for it unfortunately.

Some will say it’s red white and blue for America but boomers will know it’s what makes you feel better.

I’ve really been enjoying my fixed axle yoyo the last few months, one thing I’ve been curious about is how long do y’all make your strings? I’ve seen some people on youtube that use shorter strings than they do with a non-responsive yoyo.

It depends on the yoyo. Usually as the diameter of the yoyo increases I increase the string length. There is a relationship between string length and how well the yoyo performs shoots the moon.

Ya as you get more nuanced with setup, there can be factors such as axle size, gap size, response type and overall diameter that will affect string length and thickness. This is notably to alter kickback (or loop up) vs. what I like to call kick forward (or loop down).

But overall I prefer a long string on most of my fixed axles, nearly as long as my unresponsive setup - in my case the top of the loop is usually about 2 inches below my sternum. This means that my arm parallel to the ground, with elbow at 90 degrees, the yo-yo is about an inch off the ground.

I think I play with a longer fixie setup than most people though. Its just my preference.

But when replacing the string, I initially leave an extra tail on the loop and adjust the string length as it breaks in. This is done by feel rather than by a specific length.

So you should just experiment and figure out what feels good for you based on your own style. I do a lot more stalls than loops, so I prefer extra string to help with control.

Happy Fixed Axle Friday! I’ve been learning fixed axle 5a since I got this all-leather yoyo about a week ago. Having lots of fun even though I don’t know what I’m doing 90% of the time. :joy:

I love seeing people cross boundaries. Taking something that is made for one thing (supposedly) and making it do something it (supposedly) shouldn’t do. Awesome!!

Hey wait, isn’t the 0a logo also the therian symbol?

No, the 0A symbol has an oval(number zero) and the therian symbol has a circle. Also, the circle of the therian symbol goes through the top of the triangle, and the 0 in the 0A symbol does not.

Don’t pick a fight with the 0A folks. We are harmless and just want to chill with our fixies.

I just looked this up because I had never heard of it before. The therian symbol is actually composed of two Greek letters delta and theta. The theta is in the middle, and though looks similar to a zero, it is not and is differentiated by the dash that goes through the centre.

I was just making the point that the theta used in the therian symbol is a circle and not a zero. And also, that the circle goes through the top of the triangle in the therian symbol and the zero doesn’t in the 0A symbol.
