In this topic we can talk about anything concerning sportshooting. I would like to keep it focused on official competition and disciplines. If people want to discuss hunting-, selfdefense- or military-topics, they can make their own topic for that. This here is about Shootingsports.
@dooder You mentioned your CG63 rifle. I am a big fan of scandinavian shooting sports. I nthink there is a video of a swede with a GC63 in a 300m competition on youtube. Or the norwegian field matches. Where they use Sauer STR200 rifles.
That’s a real beauty right there. I never got into any sort of competition… just never had a very competitive nature. I do like going to the range and I like to watch competitions. I always really liked the show Top Shot. They did some super fun looking things on that show.
I get you. In that light… it has still been at least a few years since I did anything like that. It was always one of my favorite things to do though.
Maybe its worth rekindling that flame? And maybe it does not have to be a discipline, you already know. This winter season I finally started a routine in ISSF Airrifle 10m (arguably the hardest olympic shooting-discipline) and it is a ton of fun and a great challenge. I did it a lot before, but never in an integrated training. I hope this will give me better results in 300m rifle standing-position too.
I’ve never done any sort of sport shooting, but I’m a decent skeet shot. And I guess my dad used to compete a bit. He has a Remington XP100 chambered in .308. Very fun to shoot but she’ll snap your wrist if you’re not careful.
I used to partcipate in a vintage military silhouette shoot out here. It was a special match in general but the icing was it only occured on the 5th Sundays of the month. We shot NRA silhouettes out to 550m with these battle rifles. I love me some nice target guns, but the M1 Garand is king in my book. I know it’s different as a semi auto, and I have other guns but when it comes down to match day I can’t pack up anything else. It’s too good!
I also shoot small bore silhouette. I use a Mas45 I believe it to be a 1946. Amazing rifle as well.
When I finally will fly over to the states to see my sister, who lives in michigan, one of the things fixed on my list, is to find a nice range to shoot an M1 Garand rifle for the fist time. And in some sense the CMP matches are the equivilant to SSV 300m matches in switzerland.
My main love was air growing up. I shot with beeman .22 class and some .177 later on it was such a blast. I also had a couple crossman and a daisy for non competitive plinking around the great outdoors ahha! It actually came back up recently when my dad passed a couple of them were at his house and other members of the family took all of his firearms somewhere before I knew about his passing. No idea where the heck they went and I have no idea how to get them back. The .22 crossman was his and he let me shoot it all the time growing up it went everywhere with me. Me and my dogs would go out and play in the back woods behind the house and go plinking all over the back woods and farm area. So many good and fun memories with that one.
During my late teens (18/20ish) I got out of shooting all together. I’ve sort of regained a little interest in just wanting to find a good outdoor range somewhere but haven’t been able to find anything locally that isn’t run by a bunch of folks that have extreme political views or act like they are wanna-be militant groups. It’s weird.
Right now all I have is a Ruger MKI Target (.22 lr) it’s pretty cool. Wicked accurate and a lot of fun. I really really would like to get a MK IV 22/45 / lite- they look super freaking sick. They made a lot of improvements with the takedown mechanism (MK I is a pain to take down (darn you hammer strut!) luckily there’s aftermarket parts that fix it!) and overall feed mechanism has been enhanced. They are super modular, even more so now with rails and threaded barrels. It’s super cool and they are also wicked accurate. There’s some crazy speed run comps done with them it’s crazy!
That’s so awesome! Head to Vegas and you can be a door gunner on a helicopter. They fly you around and you shoot cars and stuff! Then you can drive and fire a tank. Go big! Haaaha
The big CMP matches are thousands of competitors. But local clubs have mini matches. You can also contact a club that shoots High Power and ask if there is a way to outfit you for a match day. High Power Across the Course is multi positional 200m, 300m, and 600m. Some ranges have pits out to 1000m. Now that’s fun stuff.
My M1 handles 500yd steel at my local range no problem. The rifle is capable of farther but my eyes are no good past 500yds!
Heres my baby, even though its one of many i have. This one is a clear favorite. It’s a fully custom CZ Shadow 2 9mm with the internal components completely redone by CGW, paired with a Vortex Razor. I use it for racing a multitude of different styles
