I know people like that with their kendamas but I wana show off the pretty wood lol
That diameter and width look really nice.
This one here
I could be wrong, but I was keeping an eye on the BST for the teak SW and never saw it.
If nothing else is working you can make your own string that’s wound tighter than usual (on the first twist before doubling over) for a bit of extra friction. The downside there is that loops don’t stay open very well and if it still needs double wrapping spin time will be shorter.
I’ve been messing with some different shapes and sizes trying to figure out what i like. some of the smaller diameter ones might need a thinner string but still play pretty well.
The larger diameter two still need more sanding and a finish but Im doing all the sanding by hand atm ;(
I was thinking of trying to sell a couple, probably to Australia and New Zealand at first because people might want them before February & i live in NZ.
My problem is, I have no idea how I should price these. none are perfect, Some having knots or small cracks. But I wouldn’t sell a yoyo that I dont enjoy playing. on the other hand im broke and these take me a long time to make
Appreciate the feedbacks!!
edit one of pictures borked
Feedback: Absolutely stunning! Wow!
Wooden axles? Gap width?
Thank You!
They are one solid piece, gap is around 2 - 3mm. some of the lighter ones Ive made the gap slightly larger to get a similar response.
I dont have anything to measure the diameter of the axle but i try to get it as small as possible while still being strong enough to last.
this plum wood is extremely dense and hard so working with it takes a lot but it leaves a really smooth finish
Those look rad! The 47g and 52g would be my pick for favorites.
How long do they take you to make?
Thanks!
Probably 4-5 hours but an electric sander and sharper lathe chisels would almost cut that in half.
the 52 & and 54 gram ones are my favorite to play so far.
Just finished building this yoyo tonight with my Dad and we’re super happy with how it turned out! Very responsive and shockingly smooth compared to the last prototype with visible vibe This may honestly be my favorite yoyo and the most fun I’ve had yoyoing in a while! Thanks Dad
Can’t wait to build some more!
Specs:
Made of Black Walnut
One piece turned on a lathe
~54.7 mm Diameter
~33.1 mm Width
~2 mm Gap
Idk the weight (I don’t think we have a scale to check but will update if I can measure it at some point!)
Dude! That’s awesome! Great work, Dan!
@Yodaddyo thanks man!
I just got some beautiful looking quartersawn hard maple. And a new laser engraver!
This is just a little engraving test using some art by Luka Rejec.
That’s awesome. There’s lots of value in that you made it with your dad as well.
I just came across this video of Dave Shulte doing a yoyo-turning demonstration for the Minnesota Woodturner’s Association. Thought you might enjoy seeing it based on what you made! He starts about 10 minutes into the video.
The plan is to make three bloodcells today if all things turn out favourably.
Someone post an appropriate meme for this below.
I hope this fits.
I’m tired as heck and messed up a few things, but whatever. (e.g. the heart does not make blood)
or perhaps you fancy this?
Why deleted @Snoopy?
I didn’t think they were very funny, and I thought the second one was a bit rude, I’ll restore it if you like.
The first one was a little funny. I think there are a couple scientists here, but I can’t imagine them calling you out.
Restore!
In my opinion, of course
Memes have been restored.
