I added a pack of 65, Dragon, and Cumulous Foam to my Black Friday order. I look forward to trying them out!
Also, here’s a totally tangential question for @Markmont: by your estimate, what percentage of your playing time do you throw a Markmont Classic?
I ask because it seems to be your throw of choice in the videos I see on FB, but I am always curious what elite throwers with their own signature yoyos actually throw on a daily basis when nobody is looking. I really respect yoyoers who are faithful to a single yoyo model, kinda like how certain guitarists only ever play one model of guitar their entire careers (e.g., Angus Young).
I’m trying to move in this direction. I’ll probably be selling most of my recent acquisitions that aren’t Shutters in the near future. It’s hard for me to justify having them when I don’t use them much and they aren’t part of a collection goal.
If you want textured, I’d highly recommend Blue Eyed White Dragon in addition to Dragon. It’s texture is nnnniiiiccceeee. Feels like playable camera grip pebbles leather
Yeah I plan on trying a few different kinds but for now I went with cumulus. I was trying to decide between a few and ended up going with color preference.
Sounds good. Thanks for the reply. I finally picked up your signature throw and I am beyond excited to get it. Ordered some ultralights in addition to the domes to see how it changes the play. Big fan of organics so my MC purchase has been long overdue!
When I’m live or wanna ‘really’ squeeze out all my creative juice, I throw Draken. For me something about yoyoing with white string is just it’s own jam and always has been. If it’s sticky weather outside, I use Copernicus. Night Moves when I’m wanting to feel squeaky clean. When I wanna use yellow I use Cirrus Foam.
I really like how it feels in play and haven’t noticed it start to degrade yet, but it seems slightly subpar in how it handles tension. Does this get better after a break in period?
I was thinking about buying a pack of markmont string to try out and I been wondering how often do you wash the strings for extended life time of the string and also I have not washed strings before.
Yeah washing string is new to me. I washed a Cumulus and a Copi after about 5 hours on each. What was interesting is the Cumulus wasn’t holding tension perfectly well in the axle loop, but after washing it was completely back to normal. I’ve got like 10 or 11 hours on that string now and it’s still playing like it’s just broken in, and hasn’t changed at all since hour 2 really.
It’s lost some color and there’s a little fraying, but it’s very minimal and plays great. It looks like a typical high end poly after I’ve used it for 10 minutes.
I know I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but this stuff is dope.
No I had a zipline string that came with my og sf cadence and it last for a week and a half without washing it so your string is not the only string that can do that
I wish I were as cool as Markmont, it’s his string. I have used Ziplines though, and while I did like them, they did not last all that long. Their nylon blends last pretty long, but not in the same league as Markmont. Formulas.
Glad you digs man - there’s def a range of play feel/function nuance to notice over the lifeline of each formula for sure. Chances are if it ever has ‘something’ about it that’s not preferred, it can be corrected with either a wash or more usage
