Most all makers yo-yo string can be washed for sure. Results can vary.
On this note, I just picked up some cumulus and it feels great, has a tiny bit of grit and is a little slick but not in the same way as other boutique string I tried and did not like. It has a springy quality to it in play like bulk poly does for the first few minutes of play.
However it doesn’t seem to handle tension very well for slack purposes. Its great for lacerations but seems to require constant adjustment for slacks and suicides.
Will this ease up as i play it more?
I’m definitely glad I bought it and will be trying more types soon, Blue Eyes White Dragon is next on my list.
Glad to hear it man. Yes over time the slack ability will def improve. I’d also recommend trying Cirrus Foam too. It’s the same fabrication but less thick. This makes it a stronger candidate for getting technical with slacks then Cumulus. I’d recommend cumulus for wanting a thick option or jam option.
On Cumulus as the string breaks in, the twist will tighten up making the slack more consistent then when it’s stock.
Thanks for the reply.
ok cool
After a bit of play on the Night Moves, I can say they are thin, but, they whip like nothing I’ve ever played before. Brent Stole is a trick I’m not completely consistent with, however, when I put on the Night Moves, it is almost like I think about a Brent Stole, and, I land it.
Been playing @Markmont string blue eyed white dragon. Soft and smooth. Very nice on the hands- particularly in this dry and cold weather. Looks killer on my throw too.
Dragon has been one of my top favorite strings for years. Since they dropped. I love the feel after a little break in and the slow speed bind ability. Slacks and whips were literally transformed for me on this string so the comments I read that mention a beginner not benefiting, try this string, you will benefit in whips/slacks. I had to slow down on purpose to land the little I know. But, speed up just slightly and I was landing doubles.
In fact, I liked it so much that when I dipped a toe in the rabbit hole of string making it is one I had as a grail string. The closest I got was a brand in Japan, fitting I thought. A Signature brand special thread that is now discontinued. Although there were colors which made it a bit softer from the start, it was similar in the right count/tension.
EDIT: I found another Signature string that has been discontinued but still in stock online. It’s called ‘Pixelles’. It is really soft out of the gate (multi-colors, the dye also enlarges the thread) and performs as well as Dragon in whips/slacks for me. You won’t get that strong textured feel, but a nice supple twist feeling and the string really last and can be washed also.
I liked Draken on very particular throws. Overall it was too thin for me and the tension was an ever twisting issue for me too. I say me as this could all be my own personal experience.
Glad to see all these great new options!
I am also really enjoying the Dragon strings, initially I thought maybe they were a little too thin for me but once you get playing they don’t really feel that thin to the touch. I am definitely mega impressed with them!
Spent a decent amount of time with a Night Moves on my Endgame. REALLY wish I could get them in different colors, but they are fantastic. I wouldn’t say rough, but I would say textured. I specify that because it’s not unpleasant. @twitch77
@Markmont any plans on expanding color options for any MFs?
Thanks Adamantium!
How tight are your binds with your Engame and the Night Moves?
I don’t have issues with binding my Endgame, but they are slippy sometimes.
I’d say a LITTLE slippier than, let’s say, Knot Bads. Mostly due to the thinness. I will say if they were softer they would likely be a lot slippier, and the texture probably helps the binds. (I’m not sure on that. I ain’t no sigh-un-tist)
I think it’s kind of cool though in a sense.
If I was @Markmont I would love the fact that I can just pick up an orange sting and be sure it’s nightmoves, or a blue and white string and etc etc
If I had my own brand all my strings I think would be neon yellow though lol, after trying a lot of colours I keep wanting to only use neon yellow ones I just love them
I believe he said something about the different colors altering performance, which I find believable based on how different all my different kitty fats play.
Correct. Diff colors have diff play characteristics. There’s a lot of trial and error that results in the formulas we offer. Usually you gotta just try diff colors in diff make ups to see what characteristics are yielding - I ‘wish’ there was a way I could easily pick diff colors for diff formulas.
I will add in though, that MF Draken is very very very similar to Night Moves. I would say they are about 90% the same in play style.
Currently in the prototyping chamber is a thicker version of Night Moves - somewhere around DRAGON and Cumulus Foam thickness. Play wise I think that one is gonna be kinda crazy in both speed and audibility. Guessing it will yield the most satisfying whips yet. Also in prototype is a thinner version of Blue Eyed White Dragon. I anticipate that one will play like Night Moves but with more spring release.
True. The dye’s enlarge the threads and also affect the characteristics (strength, feel, stretch) in my testing. @gsimian talked a bit about it somewhere on here years ago which was one of the intriguing reasons to try string exploration imho.
I’ll have to snag some Draken next!
I been using the cumulus foam string and I like it but I been wondering how much thinner is cirrus foam is compared to cumulus foam?
It’s literally half as thick. Most definitely plays noticeably different. Better suited for technical play and more layers
Cool and also how is cirrus foam compared to night moves thickness and play ability?
