Favorite String?

I’ve been getting good feedback on my string length question so now I thought I’d ask what everyone’s favorite string brand / material / color / size is? I’m rockin String Lab’s Venom mostly. Seems to have good elasticity but not too stretchy like full nylon, which I can’t get super used to. Got some full Nylon from a company called AirTec a while ago. Crazy stretch. I’m not sure if Venom is solid poly, but I think so. I have a feeling the 50/50 poly/nylon might be great. Thoughts? Other brands I should try? Favorite colors ?

Zipline makes the best strings, by far in my opinion. They have something for all preferences (poly, nylon, blends) but my absolute favorites were their Executive Class Lites (I think these have been rebranded as just Executive Class, now).

Edit: I was pretty impressed with Big Red String, but only have them on a couple throws and haven’t played them very much. Just love those ECLs so much…

I used to love Spintastics Slick-6 strings in the early to mid-2000s, but now generally prefer 100% polyester in normal thickness. In terms of color, I usually use yellow or neon green for ease of visibility, but white is great for that classic look.

My favorite string is Something Type-2, but I do not believe they make this one anymore. Sochi bulk normal thickness is a great all around string.

For casual throwing, I don’t mind most bulk string (Yoyoexpert, Yoyofriends, Duncan, etc.) since I usually just change it out after an hour to keep that nice new string feel.

I’ve gone through a few favorites over the years. I was really into Sochi for a while, then Kitty Fat (classic) was my go to until they stopped making it. Now I’m set on Original Throw (normal). It’s very close in thickness to Kitty Fat but feels a little better in my hands, seems to last longer, and whip a little better.

ive tried

yysl plutonium

ondedrop string

sochi alphaline

and kitty normal, fat, and xl

plutonium and alphaline were definitely slightly nicer than the others and last longer but i dont know if i think they are worth the premium cost, alphaline was not too thick like plutonium

kitty is good overall and nice on the hands, but wears out quite quickly, its the standard cheap comp ready string after all

I like the feeling of XL, but fat plays better for most tricks

weirdly i found on a recent onedrop the string held tension unbelievably well (slackicide was much easier , but i havent noticed this before and may have something to do with the d bearing) and there is no choice of thickness, it’s also quite coarse feeling

I missed the old kitty string when its not made in japan, new ones feels too coarse for me

I’ve been a kitty xl guy almost exclusively even though I’ve tried a bunch of different strings. Although recently canopy rope I think has over taken the top spot as my favorite string. It’s just perfect for my preferences of thickness and feel.

Y’all need to get yourselves some Throw-Yo sampler packs to find your new favorite string

My favorite string for a while was A&A nylon and @Basix nylon but both are t making stuff. @BadWolfeCo is also absolutely great and I’m so happy when I can get some.

G2 x zipline diamond blend is also hard to get a bunch but love that stuff. Zipline executive or skyline is my go to when I can’t get diamond

Ice also come to really like @BigRedStrings blends

For responsive I really like throw yo and for fixed axle I almost always go for tom Kuhn cotton.

I used to get ohh Canada and before that first salud but both aren’t available so no idea what I’ll use for my 2a and mini throws

Micros all get zipline microline that stuff is so good

Really all depends on my mood and play style I’m working with.

For my dabbling in 3a I’ve stuck to kitty fat and called it at that for consistency

I prefer stringlab type x and twisted stringz is aight. I did get some stuff with carbon fiber in it and wouldn’t bother with that

lol in case you can’t already tell, these kind of questions will get as many answers as there are options, but i will echo the voices for zipline. anything zipline in any color. personal fav have been execs for a long time but recently began leaning into zs air for its added thickness and weight for slacks

Appreciate the mention!

Got some new stuff in the works - will be rolling it out in a bit - will most likely be announcing it via IG and on Discord (working on a Big Red Discord at the moment).

There’s some fine string out there for sure!

Appreciate the love, Brandon!

Got to do what you can, and do good when you can!

Would love to pick your brain on some string specifics sometime - looking to add a few things to our current lineup to fill spots/holes.

+1 for zipline! personally love executive class and skyline the most! yes they are close to $2-$3 per string, but are insanely worth it as these guys only use the absolute best materials. Great if you have really soft hands also, most other strings feel too abrasive for me to play w/o gloves. Zipline has also made me fall in love with nylon lol

Zipline for me, see below. But for budget friendly, Canopy Rope

Executive Class are the most comfortable string I have ever used. For unresponsive play, it’s my preference

Kotn SE is amazing for my wood fixies for 0A play

Skyline III is my current go to for fixie play where I want to do 1A and 0A

I do want to grab some Fluff and try it for modern responsive bearing yoyos, I hear it is great for that

This is so true. String is such a personal opinion and personal preference thing. Honestly anyone would be fine with some bulk myy string but being able to enhance the experience with a softer or faster or whippier string really changes the experience in a nice way
