it should also be mentioned that at that price the durability is insane. i can play one string daily for a month straight. so $2 per month feels great! plus less waste

There is always a trade off between quality and price. We’ve always been a fan of quality first (which is why our prices are similar). With that being said, if you’re a veteran, we’re running a 50% off sale right now - commenting your branch and where you were/are stationed gets you the code for that discount (and if you didn’t serve you can still use code VET for 15% off).

I originally made a Type 2 when I started out. That got a little tweak and became YoYoStringLab Type X.

Easily Zipline Executive/Executive Lite for most throws. It just lasts so long and gets this nice, soft feel once broken in. Plus the colors are beautiful.

For my absolute favorites though, I typically go for Throw-Yo (Tinctures > Elixir/Ink).

Then I throw Canopy Rope on everything else. I bought waaaaaaay too much and it’s too nice to leave boxed up.

I think I ran out of all the yysl stuff I had at this point can’t remember which was my favorite

I got to try a Zipline string called 20/20, really liked it, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere…

I’ve tried OT normal, OT fat, OT wild, canopy rope, Atmos, cloudweave, yo-yo formula string, Buddha fat, Sochi fat, Sochi normal, yysl venom, type x, alphaline, zipline PNWR nylon, polyesque, OD bulk/box string, and probably others. Snakebite gets tossed if I end up with it.
I love the idea of premium string where I can just wash it and use it for years, but my experience every time I’ve gotten one is I eventually get a knot in it, and I’ve spent more time trying to pick out the knot than throwing. It definitely lasts way longer, but there’s a mindset of I have to keep it nice and pick out knots, but in reality if any other string gets a knot that is really tight and tough, I just wind up a new string.
I’ll use any string as long as it’s soft. I like yellow the most because it shows up against my floors and carpet. Variety is a spice of life, it’s fun trying something different. The only string that I’ve re-ordered is OT normal.
My only real dislike with strings is if it’s coarse. I throw that stuff away.

Pretty much only use nylon strings.

I have a stock pile of Airetic strings that are my favorite. The new zipline fluff is pretty close to those

Badwolfe nylon and zipline zs air is also pretty good.

Zipline E.P 20/20. They had a few signature versions not too long ago, but since discontinued.

Is there a good substitute out there that I can find?

im confident JD will steer you in the right direction. i also just want to go on record for anyone interested in zipline, the owner Jeremy is an absolute gem of a human and if you email him through the website he is more than happy to talk through what you are interested in as far as string qualities and direct you to recommendations. like he’ll totally work with you to find a string you connect with

Yeah, ZipLine is an awesome company and Jeremy would be your best reference if you really wanted to get into what the closest blend and construction would be.

That said, I just pulled a bunch of different strings (12 to be exact) from a few different brands and compared string width (fat/narrow), twist (how tight/loose it appeared), and feel (smooth/slick/rough).
The closest to the E.P 20/20 seemed to be:

  1. ZipLine Business Class. The E.P 20/20 is a poly/nylon blend (I couldn’t find the ratios listed anywhere, just that it is a blend). The BC is 100% poly, but was the closest in all 3 categories.
  2. Atmos Projects CloudWeave micro. Again, all polyester, but very close.
  3. ZipLine Smoothie Edition. 70/30 poly/nylon blend. The twist looked a little looser than the E.P 20/20 and the two listed above, but still pretty close. I believe that this is the same blend as their Polyesque strings, with a tighter twist (something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a little variation but a similar feel).

Note that these are visual/tactile comparisons only. I didn’t play any side by side because that would have taken me down a rabbit hole that I don’t have the time/energy for (getting the same length on several strings and playing them on the same yoyo would take me forever and leave me with multiple strings cut for one specific yoyo. That would drive me crazy!)

Hope this helps.

This, though my string of choice from them is the Skyline III. I have those in every unresponsive yoyo I throw.

Same, big sad. I have one from a PiF on my Kamuraiju, I should give it a wash soon.

This is awesome thanks so much man. I just ordered a bunch of zip line strings and I’m super excited. I think the nylon poly blend is going to be the best. Hundred percent nylon is just way too bouncy and slippery for me and 100% poly kitty string tends to be way too rough.

How do you do that? I’ve never had a string that could last long enough for that kind of treatment; that and my assumption was that washing string didn’t help that much, if at all.

Well it’s not too shredded yet but getting dirty. I’ll set it aside with my other strings I wanna wash and then put them in a delicates bag all together and toss em in the wash.

This won’t bring back a shaggy worn out hulk string, but a sturdier blend typically found in boutiques like Throw Yo will really benefit from a wash once they get to a certain point.

Also don’t use fabric softener, I think that could potentially compromise how it responds.
