Introduce Yourself! 2026

Greetings from Canada.

I am 31 years old, and have little yo-yo experience aside from playing with some cheap children’s yoyos like everyone else here and there.

I have always wondered about yoyo but never got around to it, but I now see that to actually get good, you need a good quality yo-yo not cheap toy ones.

While cleaning my room, I did find an old wood toy one I have been playing with tonight, it is responsive enough that it does come back when I throw a sleep, and even returns to me at like a 75 - 80 degree angle, and I was able to loop it once. Unfortunately, when trying to do Rock the Baby, it stops spinning almost immediately. Think I will just treat it as a beater yoyo for basic yo, yo stuff.

So I am currently trying to find a good beginner yoyo that won’t break the bank, being in Canada, that means shipping times, or increased prices.

But if anyone has recommendations, or ideas where to get a good yoyo in Canada, it’s more then welcome to respond or PM.

That’s funny… I’ve had to pay extra shipping a couple times to get some from Canada to here in the US! You guys have my favorite one-piece wooden yo yos, the Swedish-made: Canada Games/Olympic/Parker models. They’re awesome vintage loopers, and they made millions of them between the 60s through the 90s, so they’re relatively cheap still! Quality strings make a big difference too… I like the slick 6 (50/50 cotton/polyester) for fixed axle. Slick 8 and cotton work well too. Then I like polyester on my bearing yo yos. This site has plenty of nice beginner yo yos and strings. But for sources on your side of the border, I’ve seen a bunch of Canadian yo yoers on the forums lately that should know more…

you mean these?

Yeah I see “yo yo” branded red wooden yoyos like this here everywhere. Not sure if they all say “Canada games” or not, but the “yo yo” brand here is omnipresent.

However, I am not sure if for someone wanting to learn modern day yo yo, if a fixed axle wood yoyo is the way to go. From what I hear, you want a responsive yoyo with good bearings for good spin, and sort of a butterfly shape to do some string tricks as well.

Love these stories, thanks for sharing! This is just one way I can connect with my boys where we are having fun, learning and growing as people.

Love those things! But you’re right… A modern wing shaped yo yo with a decent bearing and response makes learning easier and faster. Some of us just like making things tougher on ourselves.

hi, i’m Charlie and live in Ogden Utah. I’m a huge fan of the Tom Kuhn products so my play is pretty old school, as am I, at 77, but still doing it. I dunno about a favorite trick – I’m currently working on Shoot the Moon. Favorite yo-yos are the SB2 and original Silver Bullet.

A good friend of mine is Dale Myrberg, the 1996 world champion, who lives in Salt Lake City, just down the road from Ogden. He’s a great guy, still performing, and helps me with my technique. He’s as blown away by how modern yo-yo performers play as I am.

Howdy, I’m a new thrower based in PDX. Started in February of this year, just hit my four month mark. I’ve made a ton of progress and have so much more to learn. Favorite combo right now is probably hook vanish > beef hook > branding, I’m a sucker for hooks.

Hi everyone, I’m Justin and based in Australia. I joined this forum to learn a bit about yo-yo’s and the different types there are (responsive-unresponsive, fixed axle) I wanted to make some for my kids, ended up settling on a fixed axle with a Delrin sleeve and aluminium body.

O.D: 50mm

Width: 30mm

Gap: 3mm

Weight:66.16grams

It’s sort of a take on new school but with old school fixed axle. I might change the delrin sleeve out to wood as this yo yo sleeps for ages and the kiddos battle to get it back up.

Cheers:call_me_hand:t2:

My name is Raymond, I’m so ancient that my first yoyo was a purple Duncan Imperial. I now have 3 unresponsives that I use almost daily, which along with my age would make you think I’m a yoyo monster wizard. I am at best a crappy intermediate. I once owned a Tom Kuhn Silver Bullet, alas it was stolen.

At least you know the thief wasn’t a werewolf… Hopefully they developed some skills with their hot yo yo. Welcome!

Wow, purple. I’m so old only the Emperor got to play with the purple yo-yos.

Welcome! I’m gonna guess that “crappy intermediate” is still above my skill level. No need to apologize; we start where we are and get to where we get to. Just keep showin’ up.

My name is Edwin I’m 43 and I’m new to YoYos. So far I’ve purchased the sage, MK1 ring bearer and now the Edition Forma. Looking forward to really learning tricks and having a great time.

I also ride Harleys, play video games, love my wife and kids but also deal with anxiety, panic and depression at times. I have no friends so I’m thankful for everyone’s kindness on the forums so far and looking forward to meeting more people and learning from you all.

I don’t give my exact location but im located About 40 minutes from Syracuse ny.

Welcome! We’re glad yer here.

Aside from the video games I can relate. Hardtail chain-drive Sportster; rode it in two Iron Butt runs. Anxiety, panic, depression aye. Yoyos are great for that. When stuff’s sitting on my head I can spend hours on just throw-and-catch and throw in the occasional 0A trick just to break it up a little. Love my responsives! The OD Deepest State pretty much lives in my hand these days.
