Just an FYI, in light of some of the responses here, but diving into the middle of the SF Bay wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do. It’s not super deep, but certainly deeper than the average person can dive without gear. The main thing is the current, which can be pretty strong, especially near the mouth of the Bay where Alcatraz is located. That current is one of the reasons why it was considered such a secure prison.
