I’m not as knowledgeable on the wood end so I’ll let others chime in on that
For easily available, you can get a Legend Wing or Boho from YYF. They are inexpensive and easy entries into wood fixed axle.
If you’re willing to spend a little more, you can get an Heirloom Collection from Dazzling Dave. They are a phenomenal value. You can find them on Dazzling Dave’s website.
Davidson Lathe Craft also turns good throws. Highly recommended around here but I don’t have personal experience. He sells on Etsy I think?
Edit: and if you want wooden axle but plastic body, there are a bunch of 3d printers on here (including me) or you could pick up a Spintastics Manta Ray.
All excellent suggestions.
Unfortunately Boho and Legend Wing have been out of stock for a while here on YYE.
Ed Davidson had a shop injury a while back, and has temporarily closed his store while he recovers. Sounds like it’ll be back up and running soon though. His site:

Other good wood fixed options include the BC Apollo, and BC Blackbird. Astrojax sells new old stock Apollos, or you can find either model on the auction sites. And of course there’s the venerable Tom Kuhn 3-in1 No Jive, if you can find one at a reasonable price.
Theres a handful of TMBR throws here! Theyre more premium, but theyre great yoyos.
My favorite wood throw is probably my dazzling Dave heirloom and I always recommend it. Clyw is also working on a cheap wood with the maker behind tmbr and Davidson recently started back up.
Usually wild woods also kicks back up around summer time.
There’s also a handful of awesome 3d printers here that make some amazing fixed axles. On of my all time favorite 3d printed YoYo’s in this category is the layer infinity Kasm.
Also can’t go wrong with a yyf legend wing…
Stock, it’s probably more reliable for 0A than 2A, tbh. Takes a considerable amount of modding to make those good for looping.
Yeah you got to constantly lube fireballs to keep them consistent. The gap is big and the spool slippy if not greased or lubbed heavily. 0a they could play okay with some lube / grease but they are slim and the starburst can result in weird response when stalling. Don’t get me wrong I stall loopers without thinking often it’s doable.
Chiming in that the Butterfly is an awesome throw for 0A, it’s still one of my most played throws
Kitty Fat with a little chapstick on the axle loop is just heavenly. The cost for entry is also a nice advantage while you learn if the style is for you
Hey, I’m gonna link two homies up here! If you are looking for a wood yo-yo, you can’t go wrong with a TMBR. Colin Leland, the maker of TMBR, changed the game but he’s been on a hiatus since 2021. These are highly sought after and sell at a premium.
That said, @Adrielecc has had several TMBRs for sale at the lowest prices I have seen in a while! And it looks like he still has some! I know he’s been working on collecting SW, so he’s likely trying to recoup funds.
Anyway, all the models that he has left are great. My personal recommendation is the Fremont, it is my favourite TMBR model. The PockeHts and TAW-TAW (this a way, that a way) are really good too. The TAW-TAW was designed to be invertable, it switches between a wider string trick shape to a narrower looping shape.
The only downside to TMBRs is that the threaded axle is known to unscrew in play from time to time. But I have some setup tricks to minimize that. If you get one, feel free to reach out for any advice on setting it up.
Edit: I also see that @Kalic00 linked the same BST.
Ed’s store is open again (link above). He takes custom orders and his prices are great IMO, definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a wood fixie.
Saw his store was open and ordered some customs from him Monday! Love Ed’s work
Triskaidekaphobia is real and so is this eH 2013 with 100% cotton.

Not to be confused with AI yoyo art
One of these days I’ll get a picture of my Dad’s old wooden Duncan. He got it from one of the old demonstrators who either carved or painted a picture on it. A beach I think.
