This is in amazing shape for its age but is certainly the most responsive butterfly I have regardless of what string I put it on it. I’ll do some looping with it today since it refuses to sleep for me.
Does the axle have any rust on it by chance?
it did! I did the ol’ denim sanding trick to get it to a point where it’s no longer cutting strings but perhaps there’s still some there.
Does a bit of surface rust increase response? Any other tricks or suggestions for managing the rust? I intended to go get some super fine sand paper at the store and see if that helps; i have a few rusty butterflies I intend to make usable.
I have some old Vintage Duncan Wheels, and I have found that even the smallest amount of rust/oxidation can make response fickle.
I took mine apart and got a sponge and used the rough side on the axle for about 30 mins and cleaned it up and it got way better. @Yodaddyo has that one now and he pulled off that insane repeater on it
I have heard coca cola works, also heard baking soda works. I cannot say, I haven’t tried those
I have also heard that using a brillow pad and then some metal polish and then WD-40 works. Too much work for me
Thanks for the leads. Much appreciated!
You can also use a Lemon Juice and Baking Soda paste/ scrub to fresh them up and buffing with an old string.
I’m feeling completely mental this fixed axle Friday I must say.
Set my No-Jive 3 in one up pagoda style, which I believe might be the 1st time outside of a San Francisco test facility that it has ever been done. I don’t know, maybe @edhaponik has seen it done at some wild fixed axle shindig.
Anyways, is there a No-Jive made butterfly style with the classic 3in One branding done on the outside? If not, why??
That’s a really good question.
I’ve also had mine in Pagoda style since feb lol, I was practicing traps stalls with it before moving onto the imperial challenge. Was gonna switch it back but then I realized it’s the only one that can do it so I left it haha
lol pagoda… gotta love it. Aside from the short-lived “Chuck Short” model (branded “custom” on both butterfly halves or the white painted model butterflies with one half sporting the “special” stamp… I don’t think so. Only reason was to set apart the Flying Camel as its own discreet model, but in later years there were lots of other laser carved butterflies. But that was after they’d finished making new “classic branded” 3-in-1’s.
