This has been my go to the last week or so. At 60g the weight feels noticeably heavier than my other butterfly’s and I’m really into that.
Anyone have a butterfly BC Blackbird? Found a cheap one on eBay that I just purchased and wondering how it plays for 0A.
The one I have is a little wobbly, but plays ok otherwise. I prefer a Legend Wing for a decent budget wood fixed axle.
I love the Blackbird. That’s the yo-yo I used for the “1955” National Yo-Yo Contest reboot at Worlds one year because the No Jive was too technologically advanced (take-apart). It’s basically a less dense (non-spectra) Apollo, but obv you can get the occasional dud.
ALTERNATELY you could buy 24 of them for $3500 (or best offer lol).
Sweet, that is so good to hear.
Fixed February was so fun that I feel like it’s a “Fixed until further notice” for me, and I sure hope that that notice never comes in.
This is my current approach right now too!
@edhaponik - What’s weird about that ebay listing is that I have that box of 20 Blackbird butterfly yo-yos with the maple leaf in my collection, that exact box. I bought it from an estate sale auction about a year or so ago for considerably less than it is listed here. When the box arrived I took a good look at the eBay pics and confirmed that it is the same box of yo-yos.
Wild. I personally can’t justify dropping that kind of money on YoYo’s in one transaction without getting beat up by the wife so I was safe from that listing lol.
I initially read this as when you yo-yoed in 1955 and I had to re read it a few times before it clicked. I spent a solid minute questioning how you could look so young in your 80s
@ButterflyBrian Was asking me about Lace Wings earlier this week and with St. Patrick’s just around the weekend I’m sessioning the all green one today
Im having the same exact issue with my Boise Woodwork. Very disappointing for a 40 dollar throw.
if chapstik isnt quite enough i do a tiny bit of surf wax on the string like you do chapstik, its a lot more sticky so you gotta work it in, but then it will be pretty consistent for a good while
I did the denim filing “trick” and this old psychedelic Butterfly no longer cuts strings and plays great. I’m favoring these heavier (60g) old style Butterflies. It’s strung up with kitty fat first class and today’s focus is getting into double or nothing stall from brother stall more consistently.
I love the cool shapes ed does but I think a solid butterfly shape like that just plays better.
It does, I can confirm. It is up there with the best.
Here are the other three “Death Moth” throws I have from him. He pretty much made them to the exact specifications and shape I had asked for.
They are the ones I enjoy the most of what I have of his, and they are basic shapes, nothing special, which keeps them well balanced and extremely good players.
I love that first one. It calls to me.
