ugh the black looks so good!!!
I have an extra id sell
Been really enjoying the Manta Ray all week and I’m glad to see others rediscovering it, there is something to be said about a throw that is rather accessible and under $10 that can just play. A contemporary classic plastic
Hey, just touching base . My favorite fixed axle throws are vintage Duracraft/Duncraft Proyo’s and any of my American Spinners -
I was busy in airports yesterday so didn’t get to post, but I brought this along for this trip. I am really digging 0a, but it’s still a gamble for me with these super responsive throws. Got a nice shiner to the eye from a rouge return.
Youchee.
@Exmime @BassistDotNerd Does your Manta Ray have a sharp edge on the flat outer side before it transitions to the cap? I ordered one and it’s pretty sharp - I think it is flashing left over from the mold. I’m saving it for my birthday in August but I think I’ll need to sand it and tidy it up a bit before I play with it.
Not sure about the Manta Ray, but my TigerShark does have that lip. Little sanding (maybe even just scotchbrite) should soften it up plenty.
Yeah absolutely. A light sanding knocks it off easy.
I also did not realize the Manta Ray was fixed. I thought it was a bearing or transaxle like the Tiger Shark.
Nope, from what I understand it is the same body as the tiger shark, but with a wooden axle insert.
Nice! May need to pick one up now. Got two Hurricanes and a TigerShark in the grab bag at Nats (my wife and son said they wanted them but abandonded them pretty quickly, lol).
Aaaaand now I have a fixie tigershark and a bearing Hurricane. Because those parts are interchangeable. This is awesome!
Lol, so you basically already have a manta ray.
Heck yeah. Plays better than the Tigershark guts. They don’t respond enough. Probably ok with some lube, but why bother?!
I have felt a sharp edge sensation a few times during play but when searching for it around the cap I haven’t found anything worth addressing on the shells. The only flaw I notice on this clear was that one side of the axle was rusted, but I just added a few drops of bearing lube. The rust made me just think that this happened during years of storage making these just NOS (New Old Stock), but my old Tiger Shark even has Starburst. I think these shells might be from Great White Shark V2s as those were a beefcake early unresponsive mod that used friction stickers, which would also account for the increase weight closer to 60 grams. I know Spintastics was revived by a new owner a few years back and I might have a contact to reach out too ask. Either way for the price point I’m not complaining and I’m really still enjoying my Manta Ray V2, the maple axle really gives it a No Jive feel when it comes to response.
I think yours is potentially old stock, because mine also has starburst response.
