Don't you hate it when

Traditional tricks are just more impressive looking than tricks where a yoyo is flying all over the place and people can’t tell what’s going on. I can totally understand that too. Just because high speed modern tricks / combos are difficult to learn does not mean non-yoyoers are obligated to be impressed with them.

So, why exactly are you walking in a waterfall? :man_shrugging:

You know, the more I think about it, the more I don’t have a real answer.

When you mute the Buy/Sell/Trade but this one post keeps showing up all because of “to the top”

When you just splurged beyond your normal comfort level on a yoyo and then there’s another pricey yoyo that’s catching your eye (that’s still very expensive but significantly cheaper than the one you just bought…got until EOD tomorrow to make decision on if I want to or hold off

When somebody asks you how much that yoyo costs (and you’re throwing an expensive one)…Not quite mentally prepared to see the reaction when they see a yoyo costing triple digits after I heard a parent complain that $30 was too expensive for a metal yoyo that was at Walmart (that I ended up grabbing)

Just like that:

Perfect opportunity to toss it into a responsive yoyo (i play mine with WAY shorter strings than my unresponsive)

I’ll have to disagree, I think modern tricks look way more impressive than the Big Three (Walk the Dog, Around the World and Rock the Baby) but I think people just want to see what they already know.

It’s kinda like at a bar where the band is playing a cover of some complex Muse track but all that the drunks want to hear is Sweet Caroline.

On Independence Day I was walking around the fairgrounds and one of the older carnival operators shouted “Around the World, come on let’s see whatcha got!” So I threw three in a row before recalling the yoyo and blew his mind with my unresponsive Replay Pro. Then we talked a bit about yoyos and I told him about unresponsive vs. responsive and how crazy long modern yoyos can sleep so Around the World wasn’t really that hard.

I mean I’m a showoff but I’m not a fraud.

I always clear a knot with the pick if it’s loose enough, but most knots I could pick, but don’t because I have @BadWolfeCo strings and I don’t want to risk fraying or damaging them at all, especially near the response.

Also, most of the time, if the string is nice, I’ll unscrew the yo-yo to put the string on in the first place so there’s less a chance of screwing up the neatness of the twist near the axle loop. Possibly inane or insane, but that’s how I’ve been doing it.

Unscrewing an already strung yo-yo is a small defeat because of the knot, but as long as the yo-yo isn’t one of those that feels like nails on a chalkboard scrapey as you’re unscrewing it, it doesn’t really bother me.

I agree.

I think it depends on who is watching. I usually zone out or stop watching yoyo videos after 30 seconds because it just gets boring and pretty much looks like the first ten seconds over and over again. Then again, it’s just yoyos which not many people give a hoot about anyway regardless of whether the trick is simple or highly advanced.

same and I find other people that see me yoyoing feel the same. Not many people have asked me to walk the dog lol

Idk… I take my yoyo everywhere and people always either watch me the whole time I throw or tell me that they would like to learn. I literally take a yoyo everywhere and it surprises me how interested ppl are when they see my tricks, especially when I throw at weddings people just crowd around. My wife always comes and watches me and asks me to show her new tricks.

The other day a kid asked me to do walk the dog after I did my speed combo. I did walk the dog and he was amazed, I guess it just depends on the person.

Actually, it really does bother me when people unscrew their brand new yoyos before playing with them. I don’t know why, but it’s a minor annoyance.

I’m surprised a kid knew what walk the dog was its usually the older people that want to see walk the dog from my experience cause they grew up in that erra. I’m not even really impressed by any speed combos… Can’t really see what’s happening

I unscrew, disassemble, clean, and lube new yo-yos, just to make sure there’re no manufacturing oils or dirt in the bearings. Makes me feel like the bearings will last a bit longer, and run smoother, in the long run.

I have a similar routine except I don’t lube the yoyo until it starts making lube-me noises. I like to play it fresh-outta-the-box without adding anything. But I do always unscrew, inspect the threads, spin the bearing with my finger to make sure it’s smooth and has no factory bits left in there, make sure the axle isn’t loose or seized into the half, inspect for any flaws on the inner walls of the throw.

I think that throwing it dry for a bit helps break in the bearing more rapidly than lubing it off-the-bat but that’s just me guessing.

I hate it when i found a cool spot in the park, start throwing and all of a sudden, a strong wind comes up and makes slack tricks impossible.

I hate it when i cleaned my bearings, put fresh strings on and get a massive knot in the second throw.

…when I am in the breakroom alone and throwing and doing pretty good and feeling great and as soon as someone walks in I miss a string and everything gets messed up and the person just sees a string hanging from my finger with the yoyo doing a slow, lopsided spin. Most of the time I put the TV on mute so I can hear the four button combination being punched in the entrance door and I grab the yoyo and string and act as if I was just walking out.
