My partner had these two cuties when I met her, brother and sister rescues - they were rescued along with their mum and another sibling.
The mum and sibling were accepted by a rescue place to be adopted out.
Sookie (black and white boy) was always going to be kept by my partner.
Bandit (tortoiseshell girl) was extremely antisocial and the rescue said if they took her she would be put down as no one would take her so my partner kept her as well. 7 years ago when I met them all you couldn’t get within 6ft of her, it took months to years of patience but she now demands pats by way of head bumps and is the most affectionate little thing. When it’s cold she’ll crawl in under the blankets between my partner and I to go to sleep.
my oldest cat has passed away today. Crookus will be missed. We suspect he had colon cancer and it finally took its toll. he hasn’t been doing well and we had been talking about when we should put him down but with the dog being put down recently its been harder to really make this decision. The kids seem to understand and we knew this day was coming but its never easy to say good bye to a friend. 16 years is a pretty good life for a cat and who knows how long he was a stray before he was rescued and rehabilitated so long ago.
This was him not that long ago. He was kind of just out of it laying on the ground
Same issue with crookus he started having issues going in the box along with losing a whole bunch of weight then he started seeming out of it at times just roaming not really aware of where he was. We knew he didn’t have long but it’s hard to decide when it’s time.
I remember in my old neighborhood, there was this orange stray cat that would always come out in the neighborhood for pets, it was a sweet cat but i never saw him that much.
I am dying to adopt a cat, me and my girlfriend are talking about this from more or less 3 years but we still not sure, we live in a one bedroom apartment (we have a generous living room + kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and some passages) it’s at second floor and I am scared that the cat will not have enough space to live properly or do not feel bored or claustrophobic in that space.
I was thinking that I can bring him outside for a walk daily to let him have some fresh air but I am not really sure how it works.
Our neighbours have a beautiful bengal cat and they have our same house situation but they are more frequently at home while I finish to work at 3:30pm so the cat will stay alone until I come back.
I am not sure if adopt one because I do not want the cat to feel alone to do not have fun or properly go around outside the house and come back when prefer, do any of you can help me to understand? also in case you live in apartments and similar, I see so many people adopting cat in this house situation but I would like to think about the best for the cat not the best for myself!
There are all sorts of options for getting a cat out for fresh air! The easiest is a harness for walks, but you can also buy “Catio” inserts for a window, so the cat has a place to perch and get some air. Toys, and a nice cat tree can help keep a cat occupied during the day, but if you’re worried about it being along too much…get TWO.
I tought about the harness thing I seen rarely cats owner walking their cat, I will not mind having nice walks in the park with the cat with my girlfriend.
We have space for a cat tree and same for toys, sadly I can’t adopt 2 or the house will be too crowded, would be lovely to adopt one.
Another thing I will have to keep attention is sadly I am a bit “restricted” on my adoption as I am allergic I will have to adopt one with anallergic fur or one without fur.
I tought also about a dog instead of a cat (I do love all the pets) but I am sure the dog will suffer in that apartment
