Any fellow cat owners?

It really depends on the cat. We have cats who could care less about going outside and have others that are only happy if they are outside. If you are adopting then you may be able to find one with an “inside cat” personality.

I live in a 2 bed flat and have 3 indoor cats. Providing cats have plenty of indoor enrichment, they are fine to be kept indoors. You should be able to find cats up for adoption that are better suited to being indoors, particularly if you are in a larger urban area as indoor cats will be more common than if you live somewhere more rural.

If you are only able to get 1, you should also be able to find cats that prefer to be the only pet. Getting home at 3:30 shouldn’t be an issue either, my cats just like to laze around all day and perk up in the evening.

I think the easiest way to motivate you is just to say that an apartment + dedicated humans is much more than your average shelter cat has, though that doesn’t mean your concerns are invalid! Cats that are already used to being outdoor cats will definitely struggle in an apartment like that, but many cats are raised indoors and have no real issues with being inside all day provided they have enough entertainment. Grab some cat toys and rotate them out every few days, leave your cardboard boxes out for the cat to investigate, etc. One of my cats absolutely loves just rolling around in newspaper and making a ton of noise for some reason, you kinda just have to experiment and find out. Then, give cat plenty of spaces to occupy, and think 3d as cats love to climb all over literally anything, I have a cat tree taller than I am and it’s my cat’s favorite spot to sit. If you have a window with a decent view your cat will almost certainly want to stare out of it for hours on end so another great place to throw a cat bed.

As for walking, it’s definitely possible, but cats are a lot less conducive to being marched around on a leash and so if it’s something you’re interested in doing you should start training your cat as young as possible (within reason). I take my cat outside pretty regularly though I live in an area where really only the immediate backyard is viable territory because everything else is just asphalt/concrete. Make sure the harness is tight so your cat can’t slip out of it to go kill birds, I use one from PetSafe.

Sadly, where I live; any cat that is outdoors is eventually coyote-chow. I opened my office blinds last year only to see a coyote voraciously woofing-down our neighbors cat. I chased him away and returned what was left of the cat to the neighbors. Now, every time I see a “lost cat” posted in the neighborhood I, unfortunately, know exactly where that cat went.

For input on the indoor cat topic. We adopted these guys from a local rescue that raises kittens. I had considered fostering kittens before. But now would probably do a mom cat if I had a choice.

But these guy are bottle raised brothers. About the sweetest cats you could ask for and very used to being inside and even an requirement to adopt is that they are inside only(we do take them out on harness or in a backpack carrier). This rescue also takes back cats they raised which is a great option too having a pair of bonded adults.

Two is better than one because of having a companion when you’re gone. But cats have energy bursts throughout the day and early morning. Usually getting in that rough play you can’t really provide a cat without getting clawed or bit up. They find some pretty small areas to sleep, a tall cat tree or two is a must. They love a space to see out the window so window seats are nice too if you can’t place a tree near one.

My freaks (affectionate) are indoor only simply because indoor-only cats live much longer. It’s dangerous out there! My buddies jobs are indoor pest control and to be my pals, so I gotta keep their 1-braincell having butts safe indoors. <3

I will also agree that 2 cats is a great option. You’ll need 2 litter boxes optimally, we got the ones that are basically a storage tub with a hinged lid that has a hole in it. I think they’re easier and less messy than other types I’ve tried (uncovered tubs and covered side-entry.)

Having 2 cats is barely any more work than keeping one as well. Often you can find bonded pairs but these guys had to be acclimated to each other. They’re buddies now

So guys, this Sunday I have to go with my girlfriend to see a cat, she is a Russian Blue, 2 years old and she seem sooooooo sweet.
We have to meet her and see if it trigger me any allergic reaction (I have been to a couple cat cafe, very busy with around 5 cats in and I felt itchy nose after stay there 2/3 hours, same it happened in my girlfrien’s mom house that she has 3 cats, during the night there I felt my body and my nose itch and a bit of sore throat), watched some video from a guy that is a cat pro that said that there are so many ways to do not trigger allergic reaction which one of them is simply keep the place clean which we already do, so it will be no difference.

Will see what will happen Sunday but I am praying that I am ok to have her around without any reaction, I would love a pet at home finally after like more than 10 years dreaming for one!

Sorry if I use this topic as a “diary”, yesterday me and my girlfriend went to see a beautiful and very shy Russian blue cat, I think I fell in love in a second and would love to adopt her, we want to call her “Apple”.
We spoke with the actual owner and she seems happy to let us adopt her, we sent the email to our building managers to start the practice to obtain the passport to keep pet in our house, our landlord has no issues at all about it (which I appreciated). Once we obtain the passport it will be a shop to “catify” the house, would love one or two of those little trees where the cat can play and chill, some toys, food and all the necessary to make her live properly in her new house.

In those days I am watching lot of videos about cats, how to treat them at the best and have a good relationship, there is a guy on youtube that is the cat master and is teaching me a lot.

Hope the adoption and passport process will be smooth, can’t wait to have this little ball of fur at home!

I am definitely not a cat person(AT ALL). That being said, over the past 2 years we have had a cat “infestation” and some of them have ended up IN our house. It is hard work cleaning up after cats and making sure they dont destroy important things. Idk how many times theyve knocked my throws off the table or sent other things crashing down. I was a dog person all my life up until a year ago when i had to send my 13 year old baby girl to the rainbow bridge. Not a day goes by i dont miss her. Especially surrounded by all of these nasty cats.

BUT, as much as i dislike them i have fallen jn love with this little guy. Hos name is Freddy. Named so because when he was first born he was sooooo loud that we said he had pipes like Freddy Mercury. Now, we call him Freddy, Fredward, Fredericko, Fredrickson…

I am almost certain he is on the Kitty Spectrum because is so not like all the other cats. He instantly gravitated towards me and has become just such a little friend.

My daughter brought ashes down. This cat is super chill. I base a good cat on how they do being held upside down. Ashes passes this test and is the best with my kids.

I have plenty of my own cute pictures of my cats. But their foster just sent me this one today. This one is Popeye at almost 5 weeks old. So adorable.

And here’s another of Popeye and Brutus together.

Yesterday the owner of Apple bring her own to know us properly and our house.
At the beginning she didn’t really wanted to accept treat from us or come close to us, so we left her alone, she started to roam the house, go in every angle, sniff everywhere and sort of rub against tables, chairs and everything (think she was marking the place??), she hide behind the couch and have a proper look everywhere, she did that for a good 20 minutes than she hide under the table a little bit looking at us, I tried to call her with a little treat and I am not sure why she completely change her behaviour, she came over and she wanted to get pet all the time, accepting treats and rubbing against me and my girlfriend legs, she transform herself in an absolute sweetie in the matter of not even an hour in our house, have to admit I completely melted, she is so cute and sweet, she even sat down close to me in the couch and make herself comfy, it was a total success!
Her actual owner was pleased with us and how the cat react to our environment, she didn’t wanted to leave lol

We are waiting now for the document to fill up by our building management and then finally she can come and live with us (hope this weekend), in the meanwhile we will “catify” the house and book a vet appointment (she did it already but I would like to her to have another one).

About allergic reaction I had just a tiny bit of itchy nose but nothing else luckily (and I literally stuffed my face in the cat lmao), I read around that after couple of weeks I will get used to it and in case keep the house and the cat clean and everything will be more than fine.

With my girlfriend we was already looking to a nice cat tree, some toys, proper litter and bowls to eat/drink a little bed made like a cave to let her go under the table as she likes there, some air purifier for me with hepa filter and other little bits, I see it is quite an initial investment but after dream about a pet for more than 10 years I am really ready to eat tuna cans for months to be able to have a pet and let her have a great life!

Here some pictures of this little cutie
