my cat’s mugshot
because he’s a criminal
The house I bought came with a cat, the owners were moving to an area with Kiwi birds which are protected so didnt want to take her and asked if we wanted her. Even though I never really like cats I thought why not, her name is Swinky, she sleeps in the garage but comes in all the time, plays with the kids, hisses at the dog, she is part of the family now.
I have lovely cat called Ruby. She’s getting old now. When or if I get another one, I’m either going to call it ‘Chairman Meow’ or ‘Fidel Catstro’.
i definitely gotta name a cat chairman meow so i can refer to them as “the chairman”
I would thoroughly enjoy saying ‘good morning, chairman’ to my cat.
My ginger and ashes have been adventurous recently as the hummingbirds have been loving our back deck feeders the cats have both been found lounging about on the grill or patio chairs watching the birds. I imagine they both have tried swatting them too but no luck so far.
I do worry the bald eagle who’s nest is over on the radio tower next to my house this year may consider the cats a snack one day but I would hope the close proximity to the house will keep him away. Maybe the eagles will migrate elsewhere next year. Here’s hoping.
We have a cat but she sits in the basement all day and hates all of us
Sounds like an average cat to me
Another sort-of cat owner here. I recently bought a house and the sellers let me know there was a bonus cat living under the shed in the back yard as they handed off the keys.
So despite being a semi-feral “neighborhood” cat, he’s been fixed and he’s really very sweet. Our Frenchie would eat him up (and he seems like he’d let her do it) so we can’t bring him inside permanently, but he was a prisoner in the powder room during last week’s cold snap because my wife was worried he’d freeze to death.
rescue cats are the best cats. happy you all care and are keeping that one well off. its your outside cat now.
I have 4 cats (or do the cats have me) Ginger who is usually the only one willing to come about and be social, so she gets all the pictures was rescued from a dumpster as a kitten, Leo was a rescue from under a trailer in a trailer park he is massive, Kroocus is 16 now and not doing well he may not make it through 2024 he has been having some kidney issues and i don’t know if his health is going to hold out this year. he was found as a full blown cat in the woods behind my inlaws house (so who know he might be much older) ashes was rescued as a kitten when me and my wife where running a kitten fostering org but we stopped after we had kids and ashes was the last cat we fostered and decided to keep her.
All my cats are odd balls but i think rescue animals are the best.
Here’s our old man crookas came around for a little cause he was hungry and he ended up stealing turkey lunchmeat off my sandwich. I swear we feed these cats
Had to give crookas a bath this late evening. His health has deteriorated much more and he’s lost a bunch more weight. He no longer can make it to the cat box and I think we are getting pretty close to the end with him.
He’s had a good 16+ years since we rescued him as a stray
Currently he won’t let me near him cause of the whole water thing
They say babies are hard but they don’t tell you about elderly incontinent cats. Had to change the bed sheets too…
I’m sorry to hear that. Mine is a rescue also so I’m not sure how old she is, but she has to be at least 13-15 at this point. She’s got pancreatitis and kidney disease setting in.
I work in downtown Los Angeles in the evening from 1:30 to 10 PM on weekdays. Our collision center is as big as to football fields. There are trash cans along the fence on three sides of the yard so there’s always a cat raccoon possum or something looking for something edible.
I’ve been doing pet rescue for over 50 years. But the rescuing is not centered at my work site. It’s usually something that happens when I’m participating in pet rescues on my own time.
Every now and then a cat just decides that I am its daddy. The cat will wait for me to arrive at work… Greet me… Follow me around the shop… Almost like a little pet dog.
Sometimes I set them up for adoption right there by putting the word out. Whoever might want to adopt the animal, I pay for everything. Initial vet bill, getting a cat fixed, any kind of shots that are necessary, cat box and food, starter kits, and tips to the new perspective owner, based on my decades of dealing with cats.
Sometimes nobody’s in a position or has a willingness to adopt anything and I work around heavy equipment, sooner or later if a cat hangs around the shop long enough it’ll end up smashed or cut the ribbons.
So every few years, I will just look at the cat and say the same exact thing. You don’t know it right now, but you are the luckiest cat in Los Angeles today. Now let’s get in the truck and head home so you can See your new home.
The cats in this image are named after food. They were named in an Instant, as needed a few years apart.
I adopted one around nine years ago, the gray/white one. And I adopted the orange/white one about 7 years ago.
One day we were having an event to celebrate something at work. A few of the guys went to a place out here in Southern California called Rascals. It’s owned by a Japanese family that specializes in teriyaki chicken and things of that nature. So they cater events and that’s where we went to get a whole bunch of stuff. we always end up getting more food than anybody can eat or even wants to take home. So there was some leftover chicken and everybody was so stuffed they didn’t wanna think of chicken for the next few days I guess.
The gray and white cat was following me around because I smelled like food or something. Particular evening I didn’t have any cat food with me for whatever reason. But I felt bad for the cat so I put on my thinking cap….Bam! How about some chicken? Teriyaki chicken just wipe off the sauce and then wash off the meat and then warm it up in the microwave and then put it under the little bowl and let the cat stuff itself… Seemed like a good idea.
As I was putting the food down for the cat, one of the guys walked by and said hey, you got another pet? I said yeah sure looks that way. He said have you thought of a name for it? I looked at the cat I put the bowl of chicken down and said yeah… His name is Rascal. I named him after the place we got the chicken from. Lol.
The next one, the orange and white cat basically adopted me. He was on me like a magnet every day. I would go outside the shop and sit down on the shady side of a piece of heavy equipment and the cat would come up and sit my lap and go to sleep purring. He was so dirty. I almost couldn’t tell what color he was? Boy what a sweetheart. When I would leave at night, he would sit by my truck and watch me go down the driveway into the distance and I would feel bad every night. I kept thinking to myself I can’t bring another cat home. Because you can’t save them all.
But on After a few weeks or so, as I was driving away from the shop at 10 o’clock, the cat just lay down like it fainted and laid on its side and dead. I thought to myself man this sucker needs an Academy award. I never seen anything like that. I’m looking in my Sideview mirror and the clown actually fell over like he croaked. I circled around a lot and I came back and I said the same thing I tell them all. You don’t know it right now, but you’re the luckiest cat in Los Angeles today.
When I got home, I told my girl I got another recruit, but I’m gonna leave them in the garage tonight because he’s dirty as a shop rag. The next day, as a washed them down as I’ve done too many over the decades, this guy look like a new penny. His orange is so orange and his white was so white. He reminded me of one of those ice cream bars. It was amazing very handsome. I should say. I seen a lot of cats. He has the best personality on the quiet side I should say but the real sweetheart. all the other cats love them and take turns sleeping with him. I mentioned to my girl doesn’t this guy look like he be related to rascal? I mean, after all he came from the same shop in the same part of LA adopted by the same guy I wonder if they’re cousins ? I brought them in the house and set them down on the floor. Rascal walked right up to him and instantly became his best friend and for years now they’ve been inseparable where one is the other one is. The only time they’re not together is only going in the cat box because it’s a private thing as all cat owners know. I’ve never seen anything like it. I actually believe it’s possible, not probable, but possible these guys are actually related because they came from the same immediate area. But I’ll never know? But I do know that guys are like twins.
My girl asked me. Did you pick a name out yet? When I was feeding him at work I was giving him Friskies chicken with extra gravy. And he seem to love it. He’s eating blue Buffalo now in a few other things, but he still loves a can of the Friskies once in a while. so I told my girl yes, I did …… His name is Frisky.
There you go, two cats, adopted a few years apart, best of friends, and named after food.
