I really prefer a colored background for white objects. A soft blue is nice.
I think you’re onto something. When I picked up that black spongey stuff, I also picked up blue. So, I’ll follow up soon with a blue background, and try a few that way, so we can see how that looks. Good thinking…stay tuned, coming soon.
I don’t remember if I updated you guys on the camera situation. The old Olympus I was using in the past sold almost immediately, months ago, on Ebay for a buy it now price of $45 shipped. I’m really enjoying the new Canon I bought on the cheap. The new camera is really doing everything I expect of it. I’m having a lot of fun with it.
Luke Vader’s light box used a graphite colored backdrop, which I feel would work for just about every color since I’ve never seen graphite colored yo-yos. His light box:
I recently found some blue poster board in my basement and started using that for white yo-yos.
Both work well, it just comes down to what you want to do. Either way, you have to pay special attention to white balance on white yo-yos.
Great ideas and photo’s! The spinning shot worked out great TA! Wish I had taken more of those with some of the splash yoyo’s I had.
Seeing the nice rose by Mrcnja I decided to bring the camera with me on a hike over the weekend and caught a couple shots. Along with a little house guest that struck a pose.
Hmmm…that house guest looks all too real. I felt like he was right here with me Scary thought Beautiful focus on the top one…and the middle one was striking a pose. Great work!
Let me know where you are storing your phots, Flikr is ticking me off. They revamped a lot of the site and it’s sluggish. Photobucket has annoying videos and ads that pop up. Let me know some options if anyone is happy with what they are using. I’m ready for a change.
PicGarage might work. I use the app and its okay. Not sure what the computers like.
Thank you. I will give that a try. I was never a huge fan of Flikr or Photobucket, but I haven’t found the right alternative. I’m looking forward to trying it.
I use Imgur and really like it. Easy drag and drop addition for photos, easy to make albums. All in all easy to use.
Jumpers (spiders) are friendly! They won’t bite. Just jump around. They even attach little tether lines when they take off. Neat little suckers. They’ll drink water drops off your finger if you hold it close without spooking them. You can feed them a tiny bug with tweezers if you want too.
The lizard was as chill as I’ve ever seen one! Never even hid. Another hiker passed by and it stayed still and didn’t even mind us passing by or sticking a camera in its face. Usually they’re gone as quick as a blink! Guess it was a supermodel lizard.
Being an overcast day with spots of sun I noticed the flower had a nice dark background with sunlight barely hitting it. Right time, right place.
Can’t be much help on photo storage. I use image shack as mine show. Plenty of adds too but it isn’t too bad although I rarely use it. Mainly just for here.
TA - have you tried imageshack?
Thanks JHB’ I’ll take a look. I’ve heard of them though.
Sorry for the delay letting you guys know what I decided to do about this. I had to get a new computer power adapter. I kicked it out of the laptop one time too many. I’m back up and running now.
Hmmm… Imageshack is in beta mode, so it’s hard to see what they’ve got to offer. It looks really nice so far, no ugly ads and stuff. I signed up though, so that when they go live, I have my username reserved if I set up there. I just have to make sure they will give me enough storage, and I can set up different albums and sort them accordingly.
Here is one of my new MF Gelada, I Like the way the shadow looks like a small island with a palm tree in the middle.
That looks exactly like a palm tree on an island Funny how shadows can be that way. The green is a very good compliment to the color of that throw. Time for me to get outside, but it’s over 90 degrees outside, so we’ll see in a few hours if it’s safe to go out there.
only 90? Sounds nice.
Yeah, in Cali, you guys might be more used to it I guess. I did go out and edge the grass, but it was too hot to do anything else out there
Okay, I’ve been in the show off your spinning yo-yos thread, and want to share one of my posts from within that thread:
As for taking spinning shots, what worked for me is not using any settings at all. I use a light box of course (with the top cut out) and a tripod. So, the light box is in front of the tripod, and the tripod is in front of a chair. What I do is sleep the yo-yo. Then, I wind the string around my hand until there is only about 8 inches of string. I lower the yo-yo down into the top of the box as I sit in the chair. I’m still holding the yo-yo in my right hand and balance my elbow on my right thigh for leverage. While in this position, I can look at the LCD screen of the camera and use my left hand to snap the pictures. I simply let the yo-yo spin and turn around naturally in different positions. When I see a pose I like, I snap a photo. I took about 175 photos, slept the yo-yo maybe 4 to 5 times, and got 20 great shots. I did not post them all in here, but was very happy with the shoot.
You can make a light box. I used a homemade one for those photos using an old box and cut up T-shirt. Also, a cheap tripod on Ebay might run you $10.
Can you explain exactly how to make a homemade light box?
Sure, here is the one that helped me most, but there are a ton of videos on Youtube. I eventually bought one for about $14. Then, I cut the top off the homemade one and now use it for spinning yo-yos. I hope you will make one and post some nice pics for us.
Thanks a lot! Would white printer paper be a good substitute for the t shirts?
