I do not recommend printer/copy paper, just because I don’t think light penetrates or filters as well through it. I’ve seen people use white tissue paper, but it tears so easily. I would just make a smaller box, because this is only for a small yo-yo. You can cut up some old white Tshirt you might have that’s on it’s last leg. Or, ask a family member or friend if they have an old white one. I only used one shirt for my small box, and I wear a medium shirt. There was plenty of shirt left too. If you don’t have an old shirt, I’ll send you one of mine. I promise to bleach it first
My box was only 1 foot square…not even that really.
I will also post this in the spinning yo-yos thread. I mentioned trying to come up with an easy way for people to take cell phone pics of their spinning yo-yos. I tried it myself with my Iphone 4 model to see how it would come out. I chose the dragonslayer Code2, because I have a camera photo to compare it to. It did not come out too bad for a phone pic.
What I did was hold the cell phone in my left hand, and open the camera application set up to snap a photo. I had the yo-yo wound up in my right hand and threw a sleeper. Then, with my right hand, I just twisted my hand around so that the string would wind up around my right hand. I wound it up until I had about 8 inches of string left, and held the yo-yo against my backdrop…then used my left hand to snap the photo. Here are the cell phone pic results:
Now, overall, of course the camera photo is better, but the way the phone captures the yo-yo gives you a great idea of what it looks like spinning. I used no special editing software, no special phone app…just the one that came with the phone. I am hoping someone might give it a try. Oh…and it’s even better if you can get outside in natural sunlight to capture shots. I will try some today. But, I should mention this…I used a flash on the phone pics.
That is hilarious…the ultimate compliment. I only include the black string for that reason. No store would use a black string…double looped at that. Pretty funny. I figured eventually that would happen to someone on the BST.
It seems that due to the site crash, we lost the photo you posted Logi. But, I saw it…it was a Cascade. Pretty funny how he thought it was a stock photo. That’s really cool.
Here’s my ‘modded’ Butterfly. I pried it apart, tried to satin the catch zone, sanded the graphics off, then sanded the starbursts down. The lowered response makes it so much better. Then to put it back together, I got this JB Weld glue, and used a paper clip to stick it down inside the axle hole.
Those photos look good. I discovered that black can be better in the background, or even blue, when dealing with a white subject in the photo. The only one that has not worked as well so far, is red, which seems to bleed more.
its awesome to see a dragone slayer in action, i have a chik in dragon slayer that i will have to do some shoots with mine when it arrives tomorrow great photos on this thread folks! i love watching the progression over the pages!
