My big criteria is just that you like the yoyo. Just like 1A there’s no “best” type of yoyo for 5A, it’s entirely personal preference for what you wanna throw.
I think there’s a decent argument to be made for just using a cheap yoyo if you’re really scared of damage. But yoyos are very durable overall, and I personally think using a yoyo you like a lot is better than using a yoyo just because it’s cheap.
Capped yoyos do have an inherent bonus for 5A though, when the counterweight smacks the yoyo on accident (this will happen often), the caps will dampen the impact noise and prevent a long droning ring.
I still stand by the statement of just use any yoyo that makes you excited to play yoyo. Using a yoyo you like more just makes yoyo more fun, and if you just go outside and play over grass you’re unlikely to pick up any dings or damage.
Thank you all for the replies. I have the AL , but also a Barracuda and a Yoshicuda with some vibe. I really like both of those and I don’t mind so much if they take a whack.
I’ve seen one in a few pics lately that looked like you have a small T handle to hold onto. I’ll have to find it because I’d like to know what that one is.
