Dazzler by TotalArtist Yoyos, on Flickr

I’m still befuddled as why the Dazzler costs nearly $600. Unless I’m missing something, it’s not like it has an extremely complex design. From what I can see in pictures, it doesn’t even look like it has an IRG.

But hey, if people are willing to pay that much, good on YYR.

This has been discussed before on the YYF Ricochet thread, but the consensus from manufacturers was that unless they are out-sourced to China, the general retail price of small-run Ti throws (think Oxygene, 3Yo3…) is around $400 - $500. The Ricochet was cheaper for YYF due to out-sourcing as well as a relatively large run.

Is it too much? Obviously that depends on the amount of disposable income you have at the time of purchase-decision. I am 50 years old, $600 is not going to break my bank (although I will hear some grousing from the wife). I can see that for others, the price may be a huge obstacle. I would never have had the money to spend on a Dazzler at 22 years of age

That’s very true. I hasn’t considered that. It’d be worth knowing how many Dazzlers were produced.

There were only 20 or so Hyperions made, right? I can understand the cost there. Anyone know how many Ti5s were made?

YYR could claim that they designed the Dazzler to be the ultimate competition yoyo all they want, and for all I know it could be the ultimate competition yoyo, but that’s not why it exists. The reality is that the Dazzler was designed primarily to suck $570+ out of the wallets of people who will never participate in a yoyo competition and who will probably play it for less than 2 hours in the entire time they own it. Is the JPY price the same in this run as the original run? I’m honestly surprised that it’s so “inexpensive” this time compared to last. Unless the run is relatively large, they should’ve just sold them at the same price as before, they’d all sell anyway.

Not saying that in a negative way, just being realistic here. The yoyo looks awesome, I briefly considered considered purchasing one but I’m in the middle of trying to cut down only to yoyos I enjoy playing and almost $600 crosses the threshold to where I suspect I would be sad if/when I pitch it into the ground with my unskilled hands. Then I spent 2.5 Dazzlers on other frivolous things this week and lost interest…for the time being.

tl;dr it costs $600 cuz people will pay it. YYR+titanium=bye bye monies.

Where I stand is along the lines of YoyoGeezer. I work for a living, and I have for the past more than twenty years, so $650 is not a lot of money…to me. Dependent on age, work experience, luck, and a lot of other factors, some people may have different circumstances. But, I don’t have anyone to answer to about my spending.

I set out to collect these anyway, and I would spend that same money on yo-yos anyway, so it didn’t really factor in my decision. Whether I buy 4 CLYW, or one Dazzler is not a huge decision for me really…it’s all yo-yo money being spent on yo-yos.

Because it is impossible to obtain all past titaniums, there was no real pressure to get the Dazzler. But, everything aligned where I considered it a good idea, and I decided that I wanted it in my collection, so I went for it. Whether I enter a competition at some point in life, play the yo-yo or not, does not matter to me and probably does not matter to the company that made it. They got the money, so what do they really care? I don’t care what they designed the yo-yo to do, it’s now mine, and I can do with it what I want anyway. If I choose to own a $650 yo-yo and use it as a paperweight, that’s my own business…and no one else should care either. Fortunate for me, this is one smooth fantastic playing yo-yo. Sure, I recommend it, but if someone is not willing to pay that price…I can respect that. We all have to decide what to buy, and what to pass on. They never make a lot of these anyway, so yeah, they were made for people like me who will pay the price. If there are not that many made, and people don’t want to pay the price…good, cause it makes them easier for me to get.

It is not the most complex design I could imagine on a titanium by any means. But…I could care less. That’s the shocker. I wanted the yo-yo, and I bought the yo-yo…pretty simple for me really. :-\

New acrophobia just came. Here are a couple pics of the twins.

I just received my Dazzler.

Very nice looking and playing yoyo for sure. I would expect no less from a Titanium YYR. Titanium has a gloss that is remarkable to behold making this a great-looking throw too. On the play-side, it is much like my Ti Walker in that it can go as fast as you want, or as slow as you want and the yoyo will happily follow along without hesitation. The ability to accelerate the yoyo with Titanium is unrivaled. I suspect those that prefer the Dazzler to the Draupnir are actually preferring the play characteristics of Titanium over Aluminum rather than the Dazzler itself. Just a guess though. Another thing about mine is that is sings when you play it. Even on a perfect throw, it has that Titanium zing sound that resonates as you play. Almost magical

As for the Dazzler vs. Draupnir; for me there the choice is clear: Draupnir. While the Dazzler is fast and light, it lacks the rock-steady stability and floaty-agility of the Draupnir that I love so much. For me, the Draupnir is amazing in literally every category. Keep in mind we are comparing Lamborghini vs. Ferrari here, so all opinions become quite relative and personal. Clear choices are hard to come by when comparing yoyo’s of this superior quality. Any self-respecting YYR fan will have to try both for themselves.

Is it worth the price? Yes, for sure! Any Titanium yoyo from Yoyorecreation is a must-have in my book. Now, I just have to figure out how to convince Jason Wong to Rainbowflage it…

Perhaps you can entice him with a rainbowflage group buy. Maybe if he can do a bunch of them with one setup, it will be more worthwhile for him. I’d be in.

I wanted to expand on my “Any Titanium from YYR” comment. One thing I learned when visiting OneDrop back in the Sovereign days was that Titanium stock is very expensive. So much so that even then, they were having to finance the purchase because it was such a large initial outlay (big for them at the time anyway).

That means that manufacturers will only make runs of Titanium yo-yo’s if they are relatively sure they can move them quickly. For the Dazzler, or any other Ti throw that you desire, this means that you should buy them when the opportunity presents itself; not when you can “afford” it. This is because both consumers and manufacturers are fickle. You have no idea when the next run may, or may not be completed, if ever (when IS that next run of Ti Walkers coming out? …). The threshold for this cut-off can be large and arbitrary. It is the size of the last batch that the manufacturer is sure they can sell. Care to predict that?

My Opinion: Get them while you can.

recieved a Draupnir today
and got a Clashcube last monday!

Beautiful collection. What’s your favourite?

My fav is the Sleipnir!
Simply the best throw ever to me

How is the draupnir compared to it? Do you like it?

i couldn’t explain why but i prefer the Sleipnir, probably because i prefer the look of the old YYRs (by “old”, i mean pre-draupnir)
but in play i really like both of them!

it’s an amazing throw

For me, The Draupnir is the best throw ever I swear. My only issue was the thin, flat H style rim. It didn’t agree with my hand as well as the Sleipnir.
Now if they made the Draupnir with a Sleipnir profile, and have steel from the step to the rim, I would sell probably 70% of my collection.

I agree, I prefer the Sleipnir to the Draupnir. They’re both amazing but the Sleipnir just feels perfect to me.

Id sell one of my kidneys…

This is EXACTLY how I feel. If I liked the way the Draupnir came back to my hand I would probably barely throw anything else and would sell so many more of my yoyos.

The fact that I throw it almost daily and love it so much despite not liking how it returns to my hand is a true testament to how incredibly well it plays. Every other yoyo that felt sort of like that on a return has been almost instantly put in a case/box/whatever and gone on my BST.

Sounds like you guys need the Laser. Feels so good in the hand you don’t even want to throw it.

Bah. No money problems
