Thats the beauty, you can go INSANELY thin with steel
Perhaps they could try titanium.
Gosh Wilson, stop making me so excited to try the draupnir ;D
The real power comes from the fact that a ring has 2 X the rotational momentum of a disc. A regular yoyo is essentially a concave disc. Add to that a thin, dense ring (with twice the rotational momentum) and the result is the Draupnir. It is also the same formula that YYJ has been using with their plastic/metal metal/metal yo-yoâs for years. Making it fully out of one material would negate the gain made by the denser ring. It is the contrast of materials and shapes that gives it the increased stability and spin.
I donât understand why it needs to be 2 different metals. The extreme weight distribuution seems possible with Ti. Perhaps not quite as good, but pretty good. They really should do one with Tungsten. I love my tungsten darts.
@RobK,
Tungstenâs got great density, but unfortunately is brittle.
I used tungsten points as arrow tips for target archery.
And it costs way more than SS. I would imagine a Tungsten Draupnir would cost the same as a Dazzler.
My darts hold up pretty well after many bounce outs. Perhaps using the Tungstun just as weight rings, and doing the rings internal in the cups like an anglam or isotope. And do the shell in the lightest aluminum possible (perhaps the denser, if it can b ethinner, or TI if it can be done lighter because it can be thinner).
Just thinking about the kind of exotic composition Iâd like to see. Have no idea if itâs realistic.
Itâs a good idea, but again iâm concerned of the cost.
Tungsten is roughly 9-10 times more expensive than SS.
Also, tell us about how the Dazzler plays against popular YYR models(Draupnir, Sleipnir, etc)
The eli dert was a mini yoyo that had tungsten weight rings
Tungsten darts donât cost much more than brass darts. Theyâre made on a lathe, like yoyos. Certainly at least a limited edition could be done to allow fo some unique designs. It might cost a little more than the draupnir, but prolly not the cost of a DAzzler.
Well, I am waiting for a anoâd draupnir. Donât have one yet. I Donât have a sleipnir yet. Prior to the arrival of the dazzler, my favorite YYR was the Attune.
If you look at my BST page, you can see the throws I currently own. I will say compare it to all of them.
Except the Stealth Ogre, the Dazzler is the most stable yoyo I own. However, it is not far behind. The dazzler is amazingly stable. I am a terrible thrower, and often hit the string as I perform string tricks, and the dazzler is almost as forgiving as the stealth ogre.
Despite this high stability, it is very unlike the ogre in the way it feels on the string. It feels lighter. More nimble. Faster.
The spin times are amazing. I am constantly impressed with the speeds when it returns to my hand after a medium hard throw and a medium length trick. It seems to spin much longer than any yoyo I own as well. Maybe even longer than the Ogre, which does pretty well with those huge brass weigh rings and larger diameter. For itâs size and weight, it spins much longer than youâd think it would.
Of all my YYRs, it is the most comfortable in the hand. The curvier shape compared to the models I have make it really feel nice in the hand. This thing is amazing. If one doesnât show up in MA or NH soon, Iâll get it to a MA and NH club meeting so people can try it. Amazing. I just wish I were more skilled at both yoyo and writing to explain the way it feels on the string, and how great this thing is compared to my whole collection.
Probably So!
But, I think the issue with full Ti, is price. The Draupnir is literally 1/3 the price.
Although, a Ti Draupnir equivalent does sound AMAZING.
TiNir
No, I have not had the opportunity to throw a Krown, however it is on my list of future purchases. Itâs been a while since I have bought anything from C3 and I have always loved everything I have ever bought from them.
Thanks for the input.
i just bought a dazzler!
Kool! Where did you get yours? I was told 28spin had two left after RobK purchased his.
The physics of having weighted rings like what was posted above is what gives these types of yoyos so much spin. If someone were to make a Ti but add a heavier and more dense ring to the outer rims it would produce a powerful spin. I am quite behind in physics and static loading so canât say how stable such a throw would be with light metal such as Ti for the majority of the body coupled with a heavier metal.
Think of it this way. Say you had an axle which you poked through a circular sheet paper. Then picture trying to spin that sheet of paper. Lets even add a bunch more paper to the outer edge just for kicks. It would spin really slowly. Now âimagineâ that you could add a lead ring to the outer edge of that same piece of paper and give it a spin. That concept can be applied to how using two metals is superior than just trying to make the walls thin until the outer edges. Since one metal weighs more the desired shape can still be achieved.
Hope that made some sense.
Which draupnir is the most popular? All this talk has made me extremely curious. I really donât want to buy two or three so which should I get? Oh and how many are there?
28spin
I definitely recommend the fragment as well. Its a speedy one, but not too light at all.
Thatâs what figured but someone could have had a used one already I guess. Took little over week after it was shipped to get to me in Kentucky.
Youâre in for a surprise for sure. It just wonât tilt/spin out no matter how hard to try.
can anyone compare it to a draupnir?
