I’m afraid I can’t attest to the E=mc2, but Z-ONs are really a fantastic throw. People seem keen to describe it as a 5A throw, but I use it solely for 1A and find it to be an absolute treat. As I’m sure you know it’s a little weighty, but that works well for me - it gives it some serious spin time and stability (more so than the Sleipnir for me). I also like it because with the added weight it hasn’t become huge, it fits neatly in the hand and is really comfortable. The Sleipnir is clearly an excellent throw, but I still pick up my Z-ON way more frequently. I’m a slow player, so I’m not sure how well it is at a push, but I always feel I’m throwing well within its capabilities. As with many throws of it’s class (ie. weighty and of a reasonable size), it likes to be thrown hard I find, a little like the Cliff. If you don’t grip it and rip it you’ll never get out of it what it can really give. Anyway, only hopped in here because I adore this throw, and more than any other epitomizes (for me) what YYR is about - serious performance, with flair but without drama.
As an addendum, I didn’t get anything out of the Gleipnir. Where the Z-ON is heavy and precise, the Gleipnir spins forever but without the maneuverability, making it feel a little clunky to me. Just a personal opinion, but I got rid of mine pretty quickly, despite it being really high on my ‘wants’ list up until I picked one up.
In terms of heft and solidness i’d say it goes Z-ON, Gleipnir, E=MC2, then Sleipnir. I found the Z-ON far too heavy and solid and really didn’t enjoy it, same with the Gleipnir to a lesser extent. E=MC2 is heavy, but the weight distribution makes it feel lighter, and the Sleipnir is of course very light. A lot of people really like the Z-ON and Gleipnir though, so might just be me, also it was a while ago that i had one so maybe i just didn’t play it enough. I enjoy my DreadnoughtG and PerfectStar which are both very heavy, but for me it’s all about feel rather than specs.
With the exception of YYR and Turning point? Which manufacturer are you citing that has this fabled vibe?
YoyoJoker - Dead smooth
YoyoMonster - Dead smooth
Sturm Panzer - Dead smooth
Yoyo Laboratory - do not know - never thrown one.
Please stop trying to imply that there is some sort of vibe problem with YYR. There is not. They are smooth as glass. I have not had ANY problems with vibe on any of my YYR. So, please, stop insisting on spreading this mis-information.
I don’t know about Geezer, but every YYR I’ve thrown save my Sleipnir have had vibe. The Sleipnir has been tuned, teflon tape and everything, by a thrower, not YYR, and is now dead smooth.
Every single YoYoRecreation yoyo I’ve owned other than the Sleipnir has had vibe, all of them straight from YoYoRecreation themselves. To clarify, NONE of them have been from the “Mystery Box” and all are A grades. These yoyos include a Dreadnought, DreadnoughtG, E=MC2, Fragment, Uragment, Mr. Butcher, Z-ON, Blink, and Diffusion (I expected vibe on that one). Again, every single one of them has vibed right out of the box.
I’m very far from picky about vibe. I care so little about it that I even make specific note of it in all my B/S/T dealings. Still, I would never say that any brand new YoYoRecreation yoyo I’ve ever thrown has been smooth. I haven’t thrown every single YoYoRecreation yoyo, though, so there’s a about a 1 in 100,000 chance that I’ve got terrible luck. More likely, though, there’s vibey yoyos coming out of YoYoRecreation’s shop and being sold as A grades.
Just to put it out there, I’m actually happy about all of this and don’t think it should reflect negatively on YYR at all. They make some of the most high-quality competition yoyos on the face of the planet. They don’t need to be smooth to be amazing and that’s a lesson I wish everyone would learn.
you are the most unlucky person ever because the quality control from yyr is amazing all the yoyos you got from yyr are all the yoyos that were barely good enough
Quit being a defensive fanboy. Seems like when you hear even slightest bad thing about your precious japanese yoyos you jump on it like a shark.
It’s funny though because I have atleast one yoyo from every company you mentioned except YoYolab. All of them have vibe. Now regarding YYR, all 8 of what I have/had are not “dead smooth”. BUT like I’ve already said, they are smooth, I just can’t call it “dead smooth”.
Now for those who are reading this, keep in mind that while I do say YYR have vibe, my Agrade CLYWs have more vibe.
You must be having bad luck with your purchases. I am quite aware of how to detect vibe an all of my YYR are fine and dandily. My pink Dreadnought is the smoothest yo-yo I have. Japanese metal work is some of the finest in the world. If you do a bit of research you will find this to be well-known. Trying to imply anything else, is just not factual.
Also, I am hardly a “fanboy”. Your claims of vibe are easy to make and difficult to prove, so we shall have to agree that our experiences are different with YYR. They are not my “precious” anything; so stop with the hyperbole. Many of your comments imply to me that you do not actually throw YYR.
What YYR do I actually throw and OWN?
E=MC^2 (2)
Mr. Butcher
Sleipnir (3)
Z-On
Dreadnought (2)
Stargazer
Stargeyser
Attune (3)
44 Re-Clash
Clashcube
Gleipnir
Messiah
2012 Clash
Overdrive
Triplet
… So clearly, I have no clue what I am talking about when it comes to YYR. Perhaps I am having too much fun throwing my superior yo-yo to spend obsessing over grinding my fingernail on the rim. Perhaps if you focused on how it plays, you would find more enjoyment.
Geezer, I think the problem is that your previous post made it seem that you believe that all YoYoRecreation yoyos are “smooth as glass”. That is not true by any stretch of the imagination. Do I still think YYR makes the best competition yoyos on the planet? Yes. I absolutely do. Still, based on nothing but personal experience, I know that they sell yoyos directly to retailers and players that have vibe.
“Japanese metalwork” does not necessarily extend to machined aluminum billet. They’re known for their work with forged steel… not just the katana (as I’m sure most of us well know) but chef’s knives, woodworking planes, and saws.
The skills of forged metalwork do not translate into skills with a rotary CNC and aluminum billet. Which isn’t to say that Japanese work is in any way worse than anyone else’s. I rather imagine it is similar. But there’s no correlation between the history you would have anyone look up and the manufacture of yoyos.
This is exactly what I found as well, although I do enjoy my Gleipnir. As far as this vibe issue is concerned, you could easily say that CLYW or One Drop or any other company also have vibe by this comparison. I think it is a non-issue with YYR. I own many and none have a noticeable vibe.
