YoYoRecreation Appreciation Thread

You should be fine with unscrewing them. They may be tight, but they’ll come apart, and won’t vibe when you put them back together. The whole vibe scare is way overblown by people who’ve never actually even tried a YYR.

I’ve unscrewed all of the other 3 yyr I have and they are all still as smooth as when I first got them. The vibe thing is definitely a myth.

I opened my third impact at least 40 times … and it is perfect as when pulled out of the box the first time.
The disclaimer of some other silly store is really ridiculous …
Now, There will be who we play without pads! ;D

dreadnought / third impact / sleipnir

p.s. in Italy are two of us to have him

You lucky son of a… Where’s Julian? He’s been looking for a Third Impact for ages now, he’ll be so jealous!

Raw Attune done up:

I really like YYR in a minimal look and green’s my fav color, so… 2 shades of solid green it is!

Also, a word on the Attune…

I’ve had a few YYR filter through my collection and I love 'em but their size/feel has not necessarily matched up with my preference. Stargazer a bit too small, Sleipnir a bit too big, both a bit too wide, etc., but the Attune was a really good match. I honestly would not have picked out an Attune because the specs and shape don’t really stand out among YYR’s lineup, but it came in a Lucky Box. The weight and diameter/width ratio work really well with my hand size (large) to do chopsticks, which I like a whole lot. Because the Attune is slimmer and relatively light it is extremely playable and maneuverable while maintaining a solid feel. In fact, it feels a lot like playing a metal version of the Diffusion.

Just wondering is the Third Impact’s name an Evangelion reference?

I do not know… :-[

Does anybody know what pad size splashed DreadnoughtGs take?

Hi, I got my Stargazer a while ago and I’ve encountered some vibe. I have switched out the bearing multiple times and have screwed it as tight as possible. It’s a pulsing vibe that I can’t seem to get rid of no matter what I do. Help?

You have to make sure that when you screw it together that an equal amount of axle goes into each of the halves. It’s a bit tricky, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do if you want the vibe gone.

I’m not sure how to do this. Do you just screw it super tight?

No, you just have to manipulate the axle. YoYoRecreation yoyos have what we call a “floating axle”. That means that it can be removed and doesn’t have to be fully screwed into either half of the yoyo for the yoyo to close tightly.

Just take the axle out, then screw it in 1 and 1/4 turns into either side of the yoyo. Then, screw the yoyo together and check for vibe. If it still vibes, give it another 1/4 turn and try again until you get it right.

This process is called “tuning”. Many people used to tune yoyos all the time, but the practice has fallen into relative obscurity. Definitely give it a shot and see how it works for you!

I’m bad at tuning it but I got it somehwat smoother. I didn’t know YYRs did this, So thank you!

There’s been a huge amount of controversy over YYR’s yoyos and vibe. A certain Japanese yoyo store even has a very long disclaimer about their “tendency” to develop vibe after being opened and closed several times.

Basically, it breaks down like this: YYR makes amazingly high-performance yoyos. Performance has nothing to due with vibe, so a little bit of vibe is perfectly acceptable for their A grade yoyos, especially given the fact that they are meant to be used in competitions.

I happen to agree with that logic, but some people (primarily those in the US) get all uppity about vibe and have even refused to buy YYR’s yoyos because of it.

Again I will say, very similarly to the price here vs price there situation, it has to do with the cultural difference between the US and Japan. People in Japan are willing to pay 200+ for a yoyo and therefore most Japanese companies sell it at that price. It’s the same analogy when it comes to the vibe situation. The vibe thing is mostly exaggarated in terms of importance here in the US compared to Japanese yoyo-er’s perspective on it. I’ve found that most of my japanese throws have a very minimal vibe during a finger-vibe test with the exception of YYR and Turningpoint. That being said, none can be felt during grinds or on string BUT I won’t call it “dead smooth”.

Then again, vibe is very subjective. One man’s miniscule vibe is another man’s dead smooth. I recently traded my gleipnir and I mentioned that there is a small vibe. The receiver considered it to be pretty smooth.

Hey guys! How do the Z-ON and E=MC2
Line up against one another?
How are they against a Gleipnir or a sleipnir?
Very curious, I might be attaining one of the other soon
