So are the New Diffusions still made in Japan? I know the old ones were.
Has anyone else seen pitting on the outside of their Laser? Here is a picture of mine. It has never been dinged or abused. The pitting is superficial, but it mars the otherwise lovely yoyo

^ Thatâs the extra reason why I havenât picked up a Laser yet. Raw aluminum is like a sick patient. Though I believe if you clean it every once in a while, it shouldnât pit; but Iâm no metallurgy expert.
An anoâed laser would be sweet!
The pitting can be largely removed with one of those glass cleaning cloths and a bit of elbow grease.

Lasers in stock, raw, light blue and slate blue available
Plus seen in a video: blue Triad, want one soooo bad, I may ask a friend to grab one for me at WYYC if they are available there
These colors are disappointing. The light blue is okay I guess. What does YYR have against purple? :-[
Anodized Lasers are available now.
Yeah those colors not doing it for me. I guess we also have the answer to the Laserâs construction. Geezer and I were wrong it looks like. It is just an inner ring, not an entire bimetal cup. Wish this was in that emerald green or purple or bright blue or really any colors other than what they chose lol.
I thought this was obvious? You can see where the ring is on the raw versions pretty easily. So much for YYR being âlight yearsâ ahead I guess?
I bought a light blue but looks Iâm the only one (since I checked at 6 AM anyway). Iâm going to be angry if they release good colors in like a month. Iâll buy one anyway but then Iâll have three.
Still the cleanest looking and best designed inner ring I ever did see. Iâll still maintain that YYR are ahead of competitors.
They did do a good job with the ring on the Laser, but the pitiful color choices theyâve made prove that other companies like Sturm Panzer and Turning Point are actually ahead
Seriously though, what the hell is âslate blueâ? It looks like silver. Is this me being color blind or are they just calling silver something other than what it is?
Actually, you canât. Although I stand corrected by the anodized version, this yoyo is very hard to fathom in the raw-version. You monday-morning quarterbacks are looking at a photo; not the real thing. I still canât understand how there are different properties on the front of the body vs. the back. I wonder if it is the adhesive being used?
I am with you on the colors thing. YYR is just shooting itself in the foot with these colors.
⌠Emerald Green anyone? ⌠Really; anyoneâŚ
Seriously, how many dull, boring colors can you dream up? It is almost comical. It feels like YYR is at war with us consumers. We hold out for cool colors to spend our big $$$'s on; they hold out and only give us colors they know we will not want so as to not flood the market with only good colors.
Checkmate.
HmmâŚactually I can.

Monday-morning quarterback? I have a Laser. Did you not notice it in my sig? Anyway, itâs not hard to tell where the rim is if you actually look closely. Besides, having the rim go all the way into the cup would be idiotic. YYR stated the goal of the Laser was to increase torque compared to other metal yo-yos. Extending the stainless part into the cup would actually decrease torque. To increase torque the idea was to have a ton of rim weight focused close to the outer diameter and to have a high diameter:width ratio of 1.4.
Why would you assume it went all the way into the cup?
In all fairness, Iâve been studying that photo for a few minutes now and I seriously cannot see where the weight ring begins or ends. The construction of the laser is still a mystery to me.
If you look closely near the top of the picture you can see the seam for the wring. Iâll say that I canât see where the ring ends but that was probly done with a nice satin like spyy did with the pure. Nothing too crazy in my opinion
I agree
Granted it IS harder to see than most weight rings. But I posted the photo more to show that I actually have a Laser and am not a âMonday-morning quarterbackâ looking at a photo, as yoyogeezer suggested, than to imply itâs easily detectable in this specific photo. Still, you can see the depth of the ring on the outside, and the natural place for the weight ring to end is where it meets the cup. Also the metal feels much thinner once the ring hits the cup. I canât imagine how or why they would cover the entire cup in steel. And if they did, you can bet it would cost a lot more. The weight âringâ would also not be a âringâ in such a case. Thereâs plenty of evidence that the ring is exactly where youâd think it is, and none that it takes up the entire cup. This was the case before the anodized versions came out as it is now. I never knew it was controversial where they placed the ring. As I said, i thought it was obvious.
YYEâs pictures make it pretty obvious IMO. Looking at pictures is just as scientific as licking my yoyo.
both the body and the weight rings have different taste, but the inner cup has the same taste as the body
