Or; what American (yes that means Canada too…) yoyo companies SHOULD be.
YYR… the shining example of what North American companies “SHOULD” be…?
Oh, brother.
YYR level yoyos at OD prices… That’d be nice
While not Japanese, shouldn’t the Adegle Accel get some more attention? Have heard it’s an awfully nice bi-metal afterall.
I had a reply very similar to this written out. I decided not to feed the trolls.
Sorta kinda glad someone did. =)
Ambiguous post. Upon inspection; it appears that you have made no point.
What exactly does “Oh, brother” mean?
Does it mean that you wish that American companies could produce products as good as YYR? Or, does it mean that you tool are frustrated that American manufacturers do not even try to make anything nearly as good as the great range of products that YYR is continuing to produce?
Jest wondering…
Trash talk, I like it!
On a side note, I may consider collecting Diffusions… just wanna try a Triad before burning all my money at once…
Have any of you guys played a Valor? The more I play it the more I feel like the people in here would like it…
Yea I’m loving mine!
Have indeed! One of the best throws I’ve played in a long time. Can’t remember the last time I genuinely “WOW”-ed at the first throw of a yoyo, but the Valor really did suprise me.
Definately the best Onedrop that I’ve tried, they knocked it out of the park.
What is it about 7075 that just looks and feels so nice? I just love that shinyness…
Since when is “making a point” a requirement for a response? My post was exactly what it seemed to be. An eye-rolling derision of what I consider a rather silly and ill-formed opinion presented by you (note: I would have rolled my eyes no matter WHO presented it… I shall hereby roll my eyes at Andy for thanking you for it, too, and I get along great with Andy and have zero problems with you!). But more importantly, it’s not the opinion that’s weak, but really the rhetoric with which you presented it.
Not really interested in debating why I think your point is ridiculous or what I find eye-rolling about your rhetoric. If you can’t read back and chuckle at it yourself, it’s a lost cause and there’s no real point. But thanks for the invitation.
Thats crazy!! I thought I was being brave for throwing my DreadnoughtG without weight rings! What does it weigh with the weight rings? And what are the weight rings made out of? Looks to me like a candle wick or something hahaha.
Hopefully getting a Dreadnought (the 68 gram version) to go with my DreadnoughtG, I originally wanted the 68 gram version and didnt care for the G, but when it wqas offererd up to me in a trade for my Puffin 1 I took it and am very happy! It can sleep for like 10 minutes! hahaha.
I wonder if yours can sleep for 12? XD
I feel like YYR yoyos are great, obviously, but I don’t think that companies like OD are “less good” unless being a competition monster is a prerequisite for being good. I feel like OD has more of a range in the personalities of their yoyos, and I enjoy that a lot. And I guess if I enjoy it, I consider it to be good.
I have a lot of yo-yos that will sleep for 10+ minutes. That monstrosity would sleep for 15.
it’s not mine. I saw it on Instagram. It prolly gets around 16-17 minutes. Considering what shai is getting.
The weight rings on that Dreadnought GG look to be made from the sort of cable some bike chains are made of. If so, with that thickness and that many rings, it’s going to add a whole lot of heft to an already insanely heavy throw. Sleep time could be 0 because that thing looks like it’d have the mass to snap a string off the first throw.
Yuki
Didn’t Buzzon have a 100g throw?
C Note
The more mass the longer it will sleep as long as it’s evenly distributed. A platinum yo-yo with the same volumetric distribution as say the Leviathan 5 would sleep forever. And cost $10k. Simply adding rings like in that modified Dreadnought G would be hard to get an even balance though, so it might not sleep well at all, but if the weight were even close to evenly distributed I’d expect 15 minutes easily with the right bearing.
Does nobody remember this bad boy? 220g
By the way yo-yo string is quite strong. Has anyone actually tested how much weight it takes to break a new, modern string like Kitty XXL? I haven’t tested it precisely but I’ve wrapped it around my hands and pulled with something like 80 pounds of force and not had it snap. Of course that’s more of a static test than throwing a yo-yo, for which you’d have to account for the acceleration. Still, I’d wager it could handle at least a pound or two of yo-yo and if not there’s always kevlar strings or using multiple strings.
I think the sky’s the limit as far as increasing yo-yo weight. It’s just a matter of cost and practicality limiting the yo-yos weight rather than a string’s tensile strength. Someone could always design a 1-pound yo-yo (or whatever) and if necessary make extra extra thick string and a wider gap. I wouldn’t be surprised if future sleeper records surpassed an hour or two. You just need to have someone willing to design such yo-yos. But since C3 took a chance with the almost half-pound BTH I’m inclined to believe someone will again in the near future with an even heavier yo-yo.
