I don’t personally, but I’m a slow laid back thrower. I mean it takes all sorts right I preferred the shape of the perceptor for the way I play and the feel it puts out. The exceed was too, well, plain for me I think. It just felt a bit more bland.
Delrin is definitely a plastic but in terms of yo-yo manufacture the differentiator is that most delrin yo-yos are machined whereas the polycarb/ABS yo-yos are molded.
Ok , that makes sense, I agree.
True fact, but it’s still plastic.
That’s like saying that something die-cast isn’t metal because it’s not drop-forged. It’s still metal. Delrin is still plastic.
As for the weight ring thing… ehh… gray area I guess. It’s plastic with a weight ring. Not a very strong representation of “hybrid” since the weight rings are typically press fit. Rubber weight rings have been used on metal yoyos, but we don’t suddenly call them “hybrid”… and we certainly don’t call them rubber. We call them… metal.
Fair point but we call yoyos such as the draupnir bi metal, I guess there is some personal opinion involved, I personally call them hybrids but others may not.
The Draupnir’s design is significantly different than the “weight ring” (whether rubber or metal) approach. Be that as it may, you’d still call the Draupnir a “metal” yoyo. Most people would call it a bi-metal (as you say) but wouldn’t balk at calling it an aluminum yoyo with stainless steel rims.
Plastic yoyos with weight rings are just that. Most people don’t call them bi-material or hybrid (in the old days before me, a term used to describe response system…) until they have a more unified and integral design like those made famous by YoyoJam. A design principle shared by the Draupnir. But not the same design principle as say a Protostar or Rally.
I’d say Crazy D is my favorite so far, but I have yet to try a Triad.
On the same note, I we’re supposed to call a plastic yoyo with weight rings “hybrid” shouldn’t we also call yoyos using Solid Spin Axle systems or spacers the same?
by that logic almost every single yoyo out there is a hybrid because of metal threads.
I think that the reason for differentiation is more for fair-comparison purposes.
It seems somewhat unfair to compare an all-plastic yoyo to a metal weight ringed one, because it’s rarely going to perform as well. You’ll never sensibly get the same amount of rim weight with plastic that you can with metal rings.
It’s like how in boxing you have so many weight classes. Why should it matter if a guy whos 190lb fights a guy whos 200lb? They’re both big enough so why the different classes? They keep it how it is so it’s the fairest fight possible.
Likewise, sure you could lump all the plastics together under one umbrella, but then the weight-ringed ones are always going to stand out as being superior, and genuinely great all-plastics will fade into the background.
@Shai Hulud: Either the Onedrop Rally or the sOMEThING Addiction are fantastic choices. The Rally plays a bit slower and heavier, and has the advantage of a blasted surface, whereas the Addiction plays a bit lighter and faster, but has no blast. It’s all preference as they both play amazing… personally I like the Rally better.
I think what should be fair is considering Delrin or Plastic with weight rings sub-categories of Plastic yoyos
Anyone have much experience with the YoYoJoker EX stuff? I realize this is a YYR thread, but seems lots of Japanese yoyo fans here. Just ordered a Stigma and Trancer as well as some extra locks and response units. Excited to see how it all works. Really excited because the Trancer is <60g which makes me happy. And the Stigma mainly just looked ridiculous and i figure i’ll never be able to track down the B!ST 4 sided or 8 sided yoyos, so this is the next best thing.
:o
That’s awesome right there. So silly but I want one.
That looks AWESOME! Any idea of price point/stats?
$95-$100. Sold out fast on that big backwards Japanese site.
Weight (g) 54.5
Diameter (mm) 53.45
Width (mm) 32.60
Trapeze Width (mm) 12
Body Material Celcon (Duracon)
Bearing Size Size C (Large)
That looks awesome!
I agree, I guess they are still technically plastic but it is a bit unfair to be compared to each other.
That just looks so totally crazy and awesome!
Yuki
I wanted to try one of those but they sold out like instantly at the site I was looking at.
BTW the new Sturm Panzer Leo Sniper MK II is less than 60 grams. I just ordered one
Just one point here…nobody would call a yoyo like the Triad a bimetal…because it’s not. A “bimetal” yoyo by definition is constructed from two different metals. Polycarbonate + stainless steel does not qualify.
Greg said “bi-material” for plastics, not “bi-metal”
