Chill, I don’t think I’m being close-minded. I just don’t think it’s a big leap in logic to assume yoyos being used by top 5A players are better for 5A than random high end yoyos in general. I realize signature throws are made for a specific player’s style in mind, but 5A tricks in general have much in common and are very different from 1A tricks, so there should be more common ground between 5A signature throws than random yoyos in general. I didn’t mean to imply what’s being used by a specific player is the best 5A yoyo for me…but hypothetically if 20% of top 5A players are using Yoyo X and 1% are using Y, then statistically Yoyo X is probably better for 5A tricks.
Indeed indeed! haha
That’s the funny thing… 20% of 5a players is like 2 people. All jokes aside, stop worrying what was “made for 5a” because it’s a lie. Try some different things and you will see that this is the case. Seriously, I know what I’m talking about.
Why does everyone seem to enjoy Pgms for 5a then? There are some yoyos that are just better for 5a.
Did you consider that it’s an inexpensive plastic?
Yes, some yoyos feel better for 5a but it’s PERSONAL PREFERENCE. If you really want to make it more of an issue than it actually is then by all means, go for it.
Whatever hobby I’m into at the moment, I always encounter people who claim “Oh, it makes no difference what equipment you’re using / how you hold the controller / which tactic you use / etc. It’s just personal preference.” And they’re almost always wrong.
Of course there is an element of personal preference involved in any activity. It may be the predominant element. But it’s certainly not the only one. In this case, the yoyo in use matters. If it didn’t, then why isn’t the selection of yoyos by 5A players more random? Why do there tend to be common characteristics between the yoyos they use, moreso than between random yoyos?
I’m new here. Maybe you do know what you’re talking about, but arguments from authority (I’m right because I know what I’m talking about) are fallacious. That said, I don’t want to troll up this thread by continuing this discussion ad nauseam, so I won’t press the issue further.
Get the E=MC^2 since Samm Scott likes it for 5a.
I lolled. I shouldn’t have done, but I did. ;D
Still patiently awaiting anodised Lasers…
So are a lot of other yoyos.
I was just told by Komari Taro from YYR that both Samm Scott and Sojun Miyamura are using the Laser for 5A now.
He also said the anodized Laser is running later than expected “because of a trouble at the factory.” Didn’t give me an expected date of arrival unfortunately.
I was going to wait for the anodized but it sounds now that could be a while, and YYR is out of raw Lasers too. So I have ordered one of the last two remaining in the wild (that I could find at the same price anyway), and now there is one left.
Anybody who wants it better act!
Of course, now that I ordered one of the last raw ones the anodized will probably come out in like a week…lol. Even if that happens I guess I’d be okay with it. I’ll be using it for 5A and dings won’t show up as well on a raw yoyo than anodized so it’s probably for the best that’s the type I got.
Have you guys checked that out yet?
New Diffusion, so exciting!
I hope they’ve significantly stepped un their games.
I hope this awful font will not be kept for engraving on their future yoyos.
I finally have a Mr. Butcher on the way. I’m pretty pumped!
New Diffusion is just awesome, for me one of best plastics on market. I hope price will be reasonable.
More interesting is their post on Twitter, saying there will be two more new secret products released on Japan nationals.
The old typeface was just Helvetica. The most over-used typeface of all time in the world of logo design.
That said… the replacement isn’t particularly good.
The yoyo on the other hand… looks great!
I still think typeface to should be matched to model name. The new typeface suits throws like the Laser just fine but doesn’t feel quite right on the Draupnir if you know where the word comes from (if memory serves Draupnir is a ring from Norse mythology).
Anyway, the new Diffusion looks to have a slightly wider profile and from that second video, looks like it’ll have a more usable face than the older model. As far as the other two mystery releases go, one of them will probably be the revamped Sleipnir.
Yuki
The typeface of model names could be different from one to the next. But companies don’t (and shouldn’t) change their brand’s logo from product to product. That’s the one thing that should be the same on every product.
You can have subtle variations (the CLYW pickaxes with the “CLYW” letters vs. without the letters) and that’s fine, too, as long as there is consistency with the approach.
But I digress from appreciating YYR.
What is the general consensus on the Mr. Butcher?
It sucks. Sell it to me.
My favorite YYR! Plays perfect
You guys are making me wish I ordered the Mr. Butcher instead of Laser. Cut it out! >:(
Also I like the typeface on the Draupnir. It looks kind of runic. What do you want them to do, write the name in Old Norse? Oh wait it’s already in Old Norse. Hmm…not sure what the complaint is.
I like the Norse naming theme. They should name an upcoming yoyo Mjolnir and have an inscription of Thor’s Hammer. Or one with the wolf Fenrir. Or the spear of Odin Gungnir. There’s lots of stuff they could use.
