There’s a very tiny amount of zinc in 2017 aluminum. The main alloying component in 2017 aluminum is 3-4% copper (main alloying component in 7075 is 6% zinc).
Why am i concerned? 2017 aluminum, while easier to machine with, is a whole lot more expensive than 7075. That might mean that the finished product could be 30,000JPY and above.
Quite a sum to pay, unless YYR makes this Sleipnir much thinner than before.
But, by all means, please post up some really good photos once you get your hands on it.
I am not sure how much you can “trust” YYR when buying a prototype. I think that the reason it is a prototype is that it was not meant for production yet; for whatever reason.
It could be a great pro to of a classic-model to come, or it could be a failed experiment. The only way to “trust” YYR is to wait for the released version.
I feel that same way, that is why I did not jump on the protos…I did want the Blink but that’s it. Having a proto does not mean that it will make it to final production, throughout history prototypes are discarded, improved on yo the point that the proto and final product don’t compare in any way, and protos can be failures and are just more or less reference point on how the final product should be according to the standards that was developed to become final production.
…the Uragment is cool in my book.
I am new here just started picking YYR and was lucky enough to get the protos and the Sleipners and The Dreads (big thanks to Agredano1 for giving me the heads up) I have a question for any one who got the 2017 Sleipnir before it sold out how does the English translated description read? For example here is a copy paste of my confirmation below. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Happy throwing!

I am in no way implying that these are not amazing throws. Just that if you want to “trust” YYR; you can only do that with a release. Everything else is subjective.
If you get one of these proto’s; I would love to see pictures and hear your thoughts on what you receive. I want to live vicariously through those that took the risk
I bought one of the Sleipner 2017 A Grades. I think curiosity got the best of me on this one.
Now that YoYoRecreation has undergone such a large transition, I really want to try one of the new Sleipners, even if it’s not a release.
The Sleipner I bought is not labeled as a “Proto”, so I’ll just have to wait and see that I end up getting… ;D
Ok so as you may have figured the top two are the new Dreadnaughts then below that in the center is the new 2017 Sleipner yup its raw and the red writing in the center is a hand written 2017 to either side obviously is an old school Sleip and then on the bottom left to right 2017 proto blink in the middle and 7075 proto on the right. I’ve yet to string them but I know a lot of folks wanted to see them so …
It’s actually a little bigger than the Messiah I don’t have my micrometer on me or a scale but its a couple mm taller and wider pretty close on the weight.
