You guys were quick to offer, haha, possibly getting a Z-ON now Anyone have input on it? I LOVE Sojun so I have to be like him now, haha. Also, just curious, is there a Turning-Point thread?
I feel like TP just really isnāt on peopleās radars. I also havenāt been too big of a fan of their yoyos. Maybe Iāll give them a try again soon
I wish Turning Point was more active, donāt know how to communicate with any of them and I think that plays a role in their business and people not knowing them, plus there arenāt many of their products in the US. I personally really enjoy Turning Point, although I will say they donāt feel as pricy to me, like when I play a YoYoRecreation I feel like itās totally worth it and the price fits it and everything, but for some reason I donāt feel the same with Turning Pointsā¦Iāll pay the price since I really enjoy them though, haha. So does anyone here have Turning Points for trade while weāre on the subject? Haha
I definitely agree about the price. TPs are actually more expensive than YYRs, and I still feel like YYRs are higher quality. I have yet to find a yoyo manufacturer that feels higher end and more precise than YYR. Plus I have yet to throw a YYR that I didnāt like
Itās because they charge alot and TPās are made of 6061 so in reality you are getting a cheaper alloy. YYR makes the best yoyos on the market hands down.
I wish turning point had a website or something that made it easier to communicate with them. They would then hopefully be more involved in the community.
I was a really big fan of the Maxbet and the Solenoid when I owned them. I havenāt tried any of their other models but the construction of both the ones I had were rock solid, the Maxbet was almost dead smooth despite a litany of 3A damage, and I felt like the Solenoid held its own right up there with the best of my YYR. Now, I probably wouldnāt enjoy their smaller throws such as the Leviathan series quite as much, but that just has to do with aligning to my preferences. Either way though, I think both of you (Chase and Yuki) would probably be pleased if you gave them another try.
Never tried a Z-On so I canāt contribute to that discussion.
Oh I wholeheartedly love Turning Point, haha, I just think they donāt feel as nice as a YoYoRecreation for the price. I actually prefer my Prominence over my Overdrive and Gleipnir most the time, but I wish they were either cheaper or a little bit higher quality, but either way, I canāt complain, theyāre great and Iām proud to own one. Would love to see a Turning Point x YoYoRecreation collaboration some time.
Got ya. And with that I will agree. It is very strange how YYR just seems to have some kind of āsomethingā which alludes premium quality that other brands just canāt seem to replicate. And before anyone jumps on me for that one, no I am not saying that YYR is the only quality brand.
But yes. A YYR x TP collaboration would be legendary.
This all sounds like the same kind of rhetoric used by Apple and their fansā¦
Distinctly less interested in YYR all the sudden, though if there were any hope of trying one locally, Iād still giveāer a go. Just canāt see myself ordering one for all that money if itās just about a ācertain hard to identify qualityā.
I must admit, youāre right. And it absolutely pains the depths of my soul to be putting myself in a position to be aligned with that group of people. But I will not falter in stance because itās my true opinion, canāt help that.
If by some offchance I can happen to quantify this enigmatic quality that we speak of, Iāll be sure to. Still working on it though lol.
I decided long ago that yoyos are pretty much impossible to review. YYRs play great. I donāt think thereās anything magic about them, just that for some reason the formula hasnāt been replicated. As far as price goes theyāve been on the B/S/T for awesome prices recently here. Even at $150 theyāre not terribly priced compared to a lot of yoyos, but still expensive for sure. YYR hype is still dwarfed by CLYW hype, so i donāt think itās anything like that, they just play well and being less common have sort of a niche group of fans. That said if you blindfolded me and gave me a random yoyo i feel confident i could tell you whether it was a YYR or not, even if i hadnāt played the model before.
As far as the Attune goes, again words suck with yoyos, but itās light, but not as floaty as i would have expected, but light in a nice way, quick, super stable, not a weak spin like some lighter throws have though. If you just handed it to me and made me guess the weight iād guess 65.5-67.5. I think the 40mm width gives it a more powerful feel than if it was wider. Super smooth and stable. Basically exactly what youād expect from the specs but maybe plays a bit heavier than youād think.
I would back you up with this one. They feel different from everyone else. At first, I thought itās because their throws are made from 7075 aluminum but Iāve tried 7075 YYFs and the 7075 Chief and I could say nothing compares. The price tag is irrelevant too because I got some of my YYRs for cheap from the Used section of a certain yoyo store in Japan.
Maybe my YYRs feel āspecialā because they exceed my expectations on them. Their specs suggest only a little about them especially when it comes to the weight and feel of their throws.
I also agree with ColeJ that I have yet to try a YYR that I donāt like.
Absolutely nothing at all wrong with Turning Point. I have a Solenoid 1.1 (basically a Solenoid with a slightly recessed response area), a Positron, a Prominence and a Levi 2. Theyāre all absolutely fantastic players. I canāt fault them on play or on quality. I also find it odd that, with the exception of the Positron, they donāt seem to get quite as much love or publicity as YYR.
As for the Z-On, itās pretty much the opposite of the Attune in that is plays a lot lighter than its almost 70g weight. The only time you really feel the weight is when it hits the end of the string on a throw.
It is amazing the judgements people make without even trying one YYR.
Whats this about āall that moneyā? If you can pay for a CLYW, you can pay for a YYR.
If I were you, I would try a YYR before I make any judgements or statements. Apple is still in the lead after 6+ years because of a reason. Perhaps the same can be said of YYR. Yes, they are that good.
I didnāt judge the YYR, if you read carefully. In fact, I said I would try one if I had the opportunityā¦ tell you what, find a way for me, in Ottawa, to try one without buying it, and Iāll be there. Itās that simple.
Buying a tablet soonā¦ it will be an iPad Mini to āupsizeā my sonās iPod touch, so that he doesnāt need to borrow my wifeās iPhone 5. Itās not like I refuse to buy Apple.
What I said, and I thought RATHER clearly is that this rhetoric sounds like the Apple rhetoric. And ironically, you went ahead and did exactly what your typical Kool-Aid drinking Apple fan didā¦ spouted yet more of it in some weird knee-jerk reaction defense of YYR and also simultaneously of Apple itself. Itās hilarious that you donāt even realize what you did.
Apologies if the above comes off harsh, but frankly I donāt bother being too diplomatic when people start it up of their own accord. Sincerely, no actual hard feelings, I just see no need to sugar-coat.
