Good observation. Looks like they also increased the weight by 1g to 65g, assuming the sites i’m looking at are correct, although i have seen Overdrive weights listed as 64-66.5, not to mention the +2 version, so who knows.
Edit: Welp couldn’t resist, ordered the purple/clear/black one, ugh, PayPal exchange rate is terrible(charges as 95JPY = 1$ vs the reality which is 98), plus the YYR payment surcharge of $5-$6, oh well, taking one for the team since i know we’re all super curious what this new one will play like. Now someone buy my darn 6 and Z-ON to help me offset this.
Hey guys! Getting a YYR has actually been a goal/want of mine for a few years now. I just stumbled across this thread a couple of minutes ago, and I can’t believe I missed out on the mystery boxes. However, I am glad they lowered the price down from 180 to 160.
Anyways, what YYR do you guys recommend I start with? I figured I would ask here, since you guys probably have a better understanding of them than the average LF Help/Recommendation person.
I prefer fast and floaty…or at least I think that’s what it is. I guess I should explain what yoyos speak to me, then. The skywalker really feels nice, and I love my majesty, it’s my favorite yoyo and the shape is perfect. My hatrick was absolutely amazing when it used to work, but when I started to get better at yoyoing, it never played well enough. Loved the feel but hated the shape. I just got the Summit, and while it plays well, it’s too heavy. Too solid, it feels like a soulless rock on a string.
I prefer normal-sized yoyos…like, around 56 diameter. A bit bigger or smaller doesn’t hurt.
So, based on that…what YYR do you guys recommend I get as my first? I heart sleipinir is a good start, but I love the shape of the fragment and the blink.
My favourite YYRs would have to be the Attune and the Stargazer. They both play quite similarly but the Attune is the slightly larger of the two at 55mm diameter. The Sleipnir isn’t a bad place to start either but to me it feels more zippy and lively than floaty. Haven’t tried a Fragment before so no comment on that.
Haven’t picked up a YYR that hasn’t played well. As long as you don’t pick anything outrageously outside of your comfort zone, you won’t be disappointed.
Actually they didn’t lower the price, they raised it last year from 14,400Y to 14,800Y. What’s changed is the Japanese Yen has decreased in value compared to most currencies due to bond buying(money printing) by the Bank of Japan in an effort to stop deflation and hit their 2% inflation goal, this is why you see most Japanese yoyos appearing to be less expensive to us, even though they’re still the same price in Yen. This also illustrates how and why currency wars start, because every country wants their goods to appear less expensive to foreign buyers in an effort to boost exports and sales, although usually at the detriment of their own citizens: Currency war - Wikipedia
That said i think you’d really like a Blink, although i haven’t played one, but i do own an E=mc2, which is a slightly heavier version, and even that’s fairly floaty and plays amazing, so i can only imagine the lighter version of that would be right on the money. I’d also say the Sleipnir would be a good bet and you should be able to find one on the B/S/T for a reasonable price, but they are also slightly more common so should you go to sell or trade it you might not get as much as compared to a newer throw. I also like the Attune i just got, but need to play it more before giving an opinion.
Yeah but i’ll sell stuff to cover it, sadly i can’t amass a massive collection, or i guess i could, but i’d feel pretty guilty as yoyos are a fairly terrible investment lol.
Holding out for a purple one, that would be amazing, or pink, or another splash, but i’m kind of done paying so much extra for splashes, a nice solid would make me happy.
He lives in Australia so that’d be a fairly risky and expensive temp trade… I too am curious how the Fragment and Uragment play though, seems so weird to release two throws that are basically identical, but surely there’s a reason, so curious.
Yeah, I PMed Cole back telling him pretty much the same thing. It’s criminal how expensive international shipping can get.
As far as I know, the Uragment was one of the final prototype models for the Fragment but Ryousuke liked the Fragment a tiny bit better. Guess YYR decided that the Uragment was too good not to release anyway.
Depends what day and when you bought it. If you bought it early on the 4th it could have cost as much as $230 after fees, If you waited until later in the week it was closer to $212-$215, never got under $210 with fees as far as i know.
Anyone willing to trade a different YoYoRecreation for my Overdrive or Gleipnir? I really enjoyed them but my taste in yoyos has changed since I got them and I think it’s time to throw a different YYR, haha. Mainly looking for an E=mc2, Z-ON, and Mr.Butcher. Hit me up
