Yoyo that won the WYYC

Well,
we all know the players that won the WYYC, but which yoyo did they use?

For exemple, here a list of 1A winner, from 2000 to 2018, I know 1 or 2 yoyos used.
Does anyone know?

2000 Yu Kawada
2001 Tomonari Ishiguro
2002 Yuuki Spencer
2003 Johnnie DelValle
2004 Hiroyuki Suzuki
2005 Hiroyuki Suzuki
2006 Hiroyuki Suzuki
2007 Yuuki Spencer
2008 John Ando
2009 Shinya Kido
2010 Jensen Kimmitt
2011 Jin-Hao ‘Marcus’ Koh
2012 Hiroyuki Suzuki
2013 János Karancz
2014 Gentry Stein
2015 Zach Gormley
2016 Shion Araya
2017 Shion Araya
2018 Evan Nagao

It was cool if there would be a builders championship as in Formula one or Moto GP.
What do you think?

You want us to list here what we know?

I’ll list what I know with the year and the yoyo used:

2008, Yoyofactory Superstar
2009 Yoyorecreation Sleipnir
2010 Yoyofactory Northstar
2013 Duncan Barracuda
2014 Yoyofactory Shutter
2015 CLYW Borelias
2016 C3 Yoyodesign Radius
2017 C3 Yoyodesign Radius
2018 Yoyofactory Edge Beyond.

I’m quite certain a lot of what I’ve listed is pretty common knowledge.

Cool!
What about the 2A?

I want to say I’m the first to think yoyo is not so important, I think all these winner would had won in any way.

From what I remember:

2000 - Spintastic Tigershark
2002 - Bionic Freehand 1
2003 - YYJ Hitman ( I believe this was the first unresponsive yoyo that won a Worlds Contest)
2007 - YYF 888

Mickey used speeders for his 3 in a row. Jensen’s was a Northstar

I’d love to see that list with the yoyo manufacturers noted next to the yoyo names.

What about women’s 1A?

I only put the names because I was going to try to list it for every style so it’d make it shorter. But I quickly realized I could only list most of them from 2018-2012(which was when I started yoyoing). I know a few here and there from pre-2012 but those that yoyo’d in the 00’s could maybe help me out.

2000 - Spintastics Tigershark
2001 - YYJ SpinFaktor
2002 - Duncan Freehand 1
2003 - YYJ Hitman
2004 - YYJ Speeder
2005 - YYJ Speeder
2006 - YYJ Speeder
2007 - YYF 888
2008 - YYF Superstar
2009 - YYR Sleipnir
2010 - YYF Northstar
2011 - TP Positron
2012 - Something Anglam
2013 - Duncan Barracuda
2014 - YYF Shutter
2015 - CLYW Borealis
2016 - C3 Radius
2017 - C3 Radius
2018 - YYF Edge Beyond

Every single yoyo used to win 1a worlds pre-2015 pretty much gained legendary status. Some for innovation, some for performance, and some for just pure popularity.

YYF leads the way with 5 wins and 5 different models, and YYJ right there with 5 wins and 3 different models. Unfortunately, YYJ didn’t really survive while YYF has flourished.

I think a pretty cool fact is how Hiroyuki Suzuki won 3 titles for YYJ, then 6 years later created his own company and won again when people started saying he’ll never be in contention to win again.

I don’t think any 1a player will ever have the dominance that he had again. In a division more competitive than all of the others combined, he had 4 wins, runner-up 5 times(3 wins and 5 runner ups in the span of 8 consecutive years), and made finals over 15 consecutive years.

So the Anglam and the Edge Beyond are the only bimetals to appear on the list. Interesting.

But there was one year, I think it was 2014, where like 5+ people were using the Draupnir. Pretty sure that’s the most representation an individual yoyo has ever gotten, at least since early 00’s.

And those 5+ people didn’t win.

I guess the Shutter’s better than the Draupnir bois. It’s confirmed.

I heard a year or 2 ago that a lot of the yyf team that doesn’t have signature models use the edge, but I’m not sure.

What is most represented here is the fact that the player won the contest, not the yoyo. 2010 saw Jensen Kimmitt win with a plastic Northstar. I’m certain there were many other yoyos used that year that would be considered “higher end” than the Northstar. YYR, Turning Point, CLYW and more. Jensen won the contest because he was the best yoyoer at the time. I’d imagine he could have used any of the other yoyos used that year (with a small bit of get used to time) and still won the contest.

Ultimately the best “competition yoyo” is the one that has gotten the most play time by the player competing with it.

Yoyos aren’t immune to the Myth of Gear. This phenomenon appears in many other areas, like electric guitars/amps/effects, golf clubs, drawing/painting tools/materials, etc. This myth drives a lot of product sales, so maybe it has a valuable role to play for the industry/hobby.
