Yoyo Boomers Club

I suspect very few club “Boomers” were of age in 1984, the good ol’ days.

I was 13. And loving my one and only yo-yo. The Duncan Glow Imperial.

Same here, I was 3 years away from getting my first yoyo in 1984.

Been kinda quiet around here lately. I wonder if we should raise a ruckus and see if we can get Jake to start designing the unresponsive throw. He could be waiting to finish the responsive first, idk. We could shoot some ideas around regardless. Does anyone have an idea they want to throw out there for what they think an unresponsive boomer yoyo should look like?

As silly as it sounds I feel like the boomer yoyo shape for an unresponsive is going to borrow inspiration from the original FH1. Maybe I’m wrong on that front but it’s one of a few yo-yos that come to mind from the 2000s boom and still a classic. I could see inspiration from the original 888 and or dark magic. Hell throwing a wide bearing in the responsive or beef stacking it sounds more boomer than anything else I can think of.

You’re not wrong. I kind of feel like all those throws you mentioned definitely have that boomer shape but they’re all missing one thing. Schmoove groove, baby! I can’t wait to get these responsive protos. I have this silly fear that we all just get our fix after that and let the club die. I really hope that’s not how it plays out.

I had been giving thought to this. While I felt like there was definitely a place for an ultimate responsive yo-yo as there just haven’t been the same number of design variations as the unresponsive yo-yo has received over the years. A lot of the responsive designs are very similar. Where as there are a plethora of attempts to capture that perfect unresponsive shape. Both competitive and chill. I am only just getting acquainted with unresponsive so I honestly couldn’t give much insight into the design. And to echo Cap’s sentiment, I got an Al FH1 maybe 2 months ago and I grab that more than anything so far. Simply because it feels so good in the hand. I think the challenge has always been getting the comfort of the organic and the higher levels of performance in the same throw. At least as far as what I’ve read. So it seems that trying to get as close to that threshold of comfort and performance as possible would be a challenge worth putting a collective mind toward. I couldn’t begin to add advice as to how we get there but I’m sure that many others have ideas. As far as being quiet goes, as well as the future of the club, I had been thinking the club thread is a good place for just any old random thoughts or discussions. Would that be the idea? Kind of a slightly less formal space than the forum as a whole? Maybe? Anyways…I’ve got nowhere to go.

I love all the ideas for the unresponsive throw from the last several comments. I would like to add, in keeping with boomer theme, old skool/mid school type feel, two yo-yos that come to mind that I think would be great to draw inspiration from are the capstan 22 and even the recently release trt Cenote. Both of these sport slimish but not too slim with organic profiles. My idea would be a Yoyo somewhere right in between the two. In terms of shape, diameter and width.

I think maybe do the opposite of Friday. I think the weekends could be hard for some as some are very busy with family and social obligations. My suggestion would a Monday Tuesday or Wednesday and make it around 6:00pm. This is just a suggestion and could turn out to be a terrible one. Just throwing my thoughts out

I think one of these nights may be the best.

I know I can be in for any of these other nights. However, changing to 6:00pm Pacific time becomes 9:00pm Eastern, which is where some of us on here dwell.

I thought about that right after. Maybe 5pm pacific is the best compromise and I know many people work at least til 5?

I’ve been thinking about this a bit. Consistency is key but what about an every other month approach. One month is Wednesday at 5:30 pacific. The next maybe Saturdays at 2pm pacific. Or some other variation that works to allow some variation while still being a consistent time frame.

Im thinking the third week of every month might work regardless of the days we specifically choose but im open to thoughts on all above.

The other challenge in last meet up was zoom (free edition) timed out on us at 30 minutes we will need a better platform for the meetings going forward. I’m thinking through what might work best while still being very user friendly.

I currently pay for a zoom membership for the G2 patreon meets.

I might be able to set up the call even without being there.

I think during the week is best. With Littles and Sports, weekend are almost always a “No Go” for me.

As far as what we do with the club after the Yoyos?

One of the Ideas was to Host a Weekly Trick set for “Modern Responsive March”.

We briefly touched on this at the last meeting.

I think we could continue the Conversation.

While we dont have any Sponsorship for this or Donations for prizes, it could still be a fun thing for the club to do with/for the community?

Thoughts?

That sounds really fun! I could probably find a yo-yo or two to put up for prizes. I bet we could get a pretty sweet prize pool going if some members felt like donating.
