Yoyo Boomers Club

Ah geezers I’m a yoyo geezer LOL! Guess I’ll put my hand in too. Been throwing since the beginning of 95. Been online in the community just as long as it’s been a thing. (who remembers the yomania board?)

I am still struggling in my mind to define a Boomer, but right or wrong I still see it as …

A “Boomer” is someone who played as a youth. Recently came back into Yo-Yo to enjoy modern interpretation of what is familiar to them.

The return to Yo-Yo it isn’t so much to follow a recent fad or impress friends as much as for personal satisfaction.

Huh. I kinda feel that. I played with a yo-yo when I was little. My grandfather was the only person I ever saw with one and he let me use it. I only understood that it went up and down (I was dense as a board as a child). Then almost 20 years later I realized there was a lot more to it. When I started collecting, my grandfather gave me his yo-yo and it’s been a ride ever since.

Awesome!

Yea, it was a pretty rad time.

One year (2000 or 2001?) there was a Yomega competition that took place in Providence. They had the final freestyle routines on the main stage at the Gravity Games. :boom:

After the Postal Service decided my new Grind Machine needed some culture and sent it on a round trip to Alaska, it’s finally out for delivery…:cowboy_hat_face::+1:

Not to be rude but I wouldn’t call Alaska a place of high culture. Happy the yoyo is finally headed in its correct path.

Curious… Can you expand on this?

A modern Boomer YoYo screams - RESPONSIVE! I realized for the club both a responsive and an unresponsive version are being developed. Kinda seems to me an unresponsive is more Gen Y or beyond, chronologically speaking. Que sera sera.

I guess Gen Y has been conditioned for inclusion. Should the Unresponsive Boomer YoYo version be called “The Participation Trophy”?

Seeing as boomers and gen x came up with and gave gen y the participation trophies I guess that would be fitting… a boomer yoyo they give to the youth…

Us millennials are conditioned this way too. I really like that name for the unresponsive.

For clarification’s sake,

Yoyo boomer≠boomer

To Gen Z, “boomer” is just a pejorative that means “old.”

I’ve been told I act like a boomer and called a boomer so does that make me old? I don’t know how I feel about being “old”

I don’t know. I would always consider the source…

Big fan of calling it the participation trophy.

Also: maybe it’s just me, but I’d wager a bunch of the people who played in the 90s came back to unresponsive and got rehooked by it. So. Yeah both makes sense to me.
