This video helped me immensely
I think of it like throwing a ball on a chain rather than throwing the yoyo directly from your palm. I also like throwing a sideways forward pass sometimes just to change things up. I think it looks cool.

It 100% looks cool and adds fun variety. I used to go that more and stopped but I should start doing it more again bc yo, it does just look cool.
It’s good for me because once I know it, I absolutely know it.
But sometimes I just wanna move on ya know?
Every time I see this video it makes me self conscious of how I throw my yoyo. I must have learned to do this before seeing brandon vu’s video or my back doesn’t let me do else but every time it makes me think
About my throw a bit.
It feels kinda awkward at first but eventually you can nonchalantly throw a breakaway like it’s no big deal. I feel like it uses less effort and energy since you’re using the string to gather momentum instead of trying to chuck it to the side as hard as you can.
I learned this way by accident sort of. When I first got my Atmos Pomelo I was throwing breakaways like opening a door knob, but that yoyo is too big and wide to do that with so I had to figure out a new technique. I ended up holding it as pictured for breakaways and I just release and bring my hand around, using the string for momentum pretty much just like Brandon does.
My index finger has a callus from the string contact in the 3rd pic.
I spy some Befaco modules in that rack. I’m using the same the Tiptop rack ears in my bento box
Haha, don’t worry, we’ve all got our quirks in yoyoing! My confession: Sometimes I still struggle with the simplest string tricks.
Very relatable bro! I’m with you!
I’m sure I’m not the first to say this but after my 15 years of on n off yo-yoing I still can’t do boingy-boing. Idk why I can’t get that rhythmic up n down motion. It just feels so awkward no matter how hard I try my brain and hands won’t get on the same page
I only know like 1 bind. I should probably take the time to look up some more to learn.
It’s actually the noise reap paradox and pams new workout with a swapped panel. Haven’t got any befaco yet though the Rampage has tempted me before!
I use a Yoyofactory whip as my 4a yoyo. Its okayish though but still, I probably should get an actual off string yoyo. When I broke my arm I had to use my thumb for fingerspins cuz I couldnt bend my arm so I use my thumb for DNA now.
@TheYoyoKid71 Both those things are actually pretty cool
It took me 2 and a half years to land boingy boing. And two years to land iron whip.
And chipped three teeth.
Me 2 months into beefhook practice throwing it in everywhere I can, just doing them over and over. I am landing it like 75% of the time. I have learned a couple tricks on the side but I am still just on the beefhook grind.
I started yo-yoing ten months ago and I throw for three hours a day most days. There hasn’t been a day that’s went by since I started that I haven’t at least got two hours in. Lil bit addicted over here
Honestly I resolved myself to learn the beefhook after only playing about 5-6 months - which is probably why it took my so long.
Whenever I get stressed or bummed trying to learn a hard trick, I think about how hard it was to learn beefhook and 2.0 hook and just figure it out lol
I love to yo, I love to jam along with my throw. I feel pretty proficient.
But my embarrassing confession is, I absolutely flubb at front style.
Wind ups, bind a clean one, a little repeater. But I look like I just discovered yoyo
Yoyo Trick Block.
Will casually be throwing in public.
“Know any tricks?”
“Yeah, Maybe 20 or so.” -me
“Can I see some?”
“Absolutely.”-me
Classic Rock the Baby, Eifle Tower, Brain Twister… then I draw a blank.
I stand there looking stoopid for a minute staring up at the sky. Oh maybe Trapeeze…
Then once they walk away, the full trick list Magically Returns to my noggin.
Go figure.
