Well guys, do not fret, because as one idea fizzles out, another opportunity will present itself  I was sitting here thinking about strange ways I made money over the years…mostly as a young person. Now, I’ve had the same job for the last ten years. Making yo-yo holders has been the most recent interesting side thing. I have not told my friends about that, but if I did, they would be like…what?

One interesting thing that stands out is selling music. That is such a weird business on an independent level. A lot of it depends on having a core fan base, and selling music otherwise is hard. Back when I was in college, I put about 6 CDs of my music in a mom and pop record store (almost a thing of the past). I had some college radio spins, and a few major stations played me a few times, which almost never happens. So, I set out with some “singles” or one-song discs to give away to help sell the discs. So, I decided to tell the store owner to put a free disc in every customer’s bag. I handed him about 50 singles. I put about 6 full CDs in the store on “consignment” on display. I returned to the store a month later, and the full CDs were gone. At least 6 people liked the “single” and bought the full disc…or they just liked my CD artwork and bought on a whim. I’ll never know. While I paid to press the singles, it taught me that a lot of getting people to buy into you has to do with you investing the money for people to pay attention to you in the first place. I hope that makes sense. :-\ Some hype is natural, but it can also be manufactured.

Another thing I did was before the internet was really huge. I was designing websites, before there was a Myspace or Facebook. I was not doing anything great, but I had a lot of music artist friends who were trying to post their music up on the web. This was before all these free Myspace and Facebook accounts could be made. I learned some interesting things about that process. There is very, very little overhead in designing websites. The customer pays for their domain name and hosting. Once you have software and a computer with internet service (which everyone has now), you have hardly any overhead aside from your time. I don’t know how much things have changed over the years, but with all the webs.com, Facebook and Myspace, it is harder to get money doing that than it was years ago. But, I cashed in and made some nice cash before things changed. Sometimes what you might make money doing now can die out if advancements take the world in another direction. I believe Myspace and later Ebay, Facebook, and Paypal put a lot of designers out of business. Why pay for a website when you can join Webs.com and link to Paypal? There are some advantages, but when you weigh it… :-\ Nah! I just did work for a few friends, but it added up quite nicely back then.

On another note…Legyoyo should get the goods for the holders today. 8)

Good insight and col story of your past TA thanks for shareing. I got an idea over to one guy and I’m not sure about the other so we’ll see I know that it won’t hold me back and I’m to concerned with getting money back as I am getting a solid product and idea to the market place. I had a little scare not to long ago and nothing was working in my favor. ( just seemed the wrong items showed up and things surrounding that weren’t as soon as I had hoped, but I rebounded and figured these parts fell right into I had a major change of heart).

Sort of a no good deed goes unpunished to the no bad thing can’t be flopped over and turned into a good thing something better then initially thought,

Giving up is the only sure way to fail.

The same has happened to me before. I’ve had an idea in my head, but when I tried to find the parts to match what I pictured in my mind, I could not get as close as I’d hoped. :-\

I decided to put a few things on Ebay. There will be holiday sales popping up in the next few months, and I want to be ready for those deals. Not just yo-yo related stuff, but stuff in general. I’m going to see if I can raise $500 toward my goal. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

I got my Prestige in the mail on Saturday, but I have been way too busy to throw it. I can’t wait to try it out, and take some photos of it too, but I have the next few days off from work to test it out.
