Based on comments I’ve seen here and elsewhere, the Terrarian is the yoyo that turned a good number of players of the Terraria video game onto yoyo. Some of them go on to purchase plenty of yoyos, from OD, and elsewhere.
I’m definitely one of those people. I was into yoyos during the late 90s/early aughts and had all but forgotten the hobby until playing Terraria which reignited my interest and had me calling my mom to see if those yoyos were still around. I ended up buying an Into from OD and then a Terrarian a few months later to pay homage to it. But the more I looked at the OD yoyo list the more I wished they still kept some of their older stock around. I can definitely sympathize with some of the people asking for their favorites to come back – Just to try them myself! But I do also get that they’re a business first and have to make decisions accordingly.
I can’t speak for One Drop, but I can definitely say this is true. Sure, some companies are run 100% by the numbers and if something is more profitable that’s what they’ll do. But we’re talking about yoyos, it’s already a small niche where there’s not a ton of profit to be had. If a machine shop was running completely based on dollars, they wouldn’t make yoyos lol.
I know that if I wanted to make the most money my best bet would be to just make white nylon string all day every day to dye neon colors, because I know there’s a demand for those dyed neon nylon strings. But it’s really boring making pure white strings all day long, so instead I make new colorways and have fun experimenting. I make like 60 different colorways, most of which don’t sell a ton, because it’s more fun that way. I assume that could be a factor here, if OD doesn’t want to make a new run of an old yoyo and would prefer to make new things or new runs of other yoyos they like better.
I was actually the opposite lol, never played the game but the story is so cool how they made in-game yoyos based on real life yoyos and vice versa, that I decided to try the game. I haven’t even owned a Terrarian yet, hoping to get one soon.
Nope
That Veruca Salts comment almost made me spit out my espresso
And what, pray tell, do you base your statement about demand not being real on? And since you mentioned it, I want a squirrel with my Top Deck!
Nope
You’re right, I figured I might be wrong with the use of the word and according to oxford: “extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion.” I wanted to refer to a “great interest” in the yoyo, and this great desire I thought could be translated by the “hype”. Thank you, until today I was using that word wrongly.
about 90% of today’s yoyos being forgotten is very likely, the same happened to 90% of yoyos seven years ago. What I meant to say is that many of our wishes end up not being met, which is normal, and in the future, we will have others. in the sense that life is an eternal cycle.
Ok… gentleman(and a few ladies perhaps), here’s the drill>
1st… The Top Deck is NOT retired.
One Drop just has so much stuff to do(always going forward). But, that being said, since they are ‘in charge of their own Show’, they can alter the ‘Production schedule’ if they are so inclined.
If there is sufficient interest in getting more Top Decks available for sale, it has been suggested to me to simply email One Drop directly and Put in your request/suggestion/want/reason/whatever?
Don’t just use a mob mentality and swarm OD with ‘more Top Decks’ because if enough people pound them for another batch, they will do it.
If you honestly want a Top Deck or need a few more, just let them know through email request.
This isn’t one of those, ‘Hey, I’m in a high school art contest/please vote for me so complete strangers can help me win’. Not the right style.
It was suggested to me if there is sufficient genuine demand, that could/would inspire them to make it happen.
Yup it’s pretty much this. Not really a mystery. There are minimums to everything so we need to be pretty sure an old model will sell well in order to justify the run. The best way we know is when people email us requesting certain models. Threads like this help. It’s more art than science.
Happy to do a run of Top Decks. You all in?
Absolutely.
Absolutely +1
I’m in!!
Ok, it’s in the queue Thank you for letting us know what you want. We appreciate that.
Oh my god it’s happening?! I’m in!
Sometimes it does, and it tastes GOOD.
Smiles and ponders what colorways there will be
Only replying to this thread to say yes. Would love to get my hands on a new Top Deck from you guys.
Totally down for another run of top decks. Would definitely NEED one in SM.
Not sure if a side effect top deck is possible but would be crazy.
My teal colored top deck is probably my most scratched that still plays the absolute same like it was right out of the box. I wish I bought 5 of them.
Yes in!!! Teal Please.
