Opinion: What’s the best One Drop yo-yo for a beginner/intermediate thrower

I’m newer to hobby and working my way through the Yo-yo Expert trick list. Currently learning Atomic bomb(just finished Split the Atom). I’m wondering what One Drop you all think is best for me right now(I love their aesthetic and quality). Thanks guys.

Just pick up anything you can find in the price range you are looking for. They all play different and are all great. Whatever it is your gonna like. Youre gonna get a bunch of different answers but it doesnt really matter. Freesolo would be my suggestion because its a really really good throw and you can find solid colors for a decent price

you can probably find decent priced benchmarks, eclipses, terrarians, intros or gauntlets in the bst those are pretty great starter one drops.

for best performing though people hold the top deck, kuntosh, summit, free solo and the MMC, though those go for a bit higher.

pano/diorama is an acclaimed darling approaching MMC and top deck levels, though you might want something more beginner friendly as they’re slim compared to most modern throws.

really though, you can’t go wrong. one drop makes great throws!

Everyone above gave super solid advice. Anything besides the deep state would help you get good at unresponsive. Onedrop is the standard for precision machining in my opinion.

Not saying the Deep State is a bad yoyo, it’s quite fantastic actually, but it’s more tailored for semi responsive and responsive play.

Finding a Intro or Nitro on the BST for $60 or less would be recommendation as someone also stated above. They made the yoyo for people asking the very question you have asked.

This sums up what you should choose rather nicely in my opinion. Find a fun shape and have at it. Never been disappointed personally.

Whatever you can get your hands on. They make amazing yoyos. Each one is a work of art.

Right now, YYE has some in stock. The Aitch, Deep State, Kraken, Lunar Eclipse, and Terrarian. Plenty of flavors to choose from. If you’re comfortable with the BST, you expand your options even further.

Get the Terrarian, it’s decently wide and has the projection profile which makes it easier to land the yoyo on the string. Plus, there’s always a ton of Terrarians going around so you can always get one!

Top Deck is easily the highest performance OD and best for learning, imo. Utterly fantastic and great to throw.

Well that’s perfect because I have a beautiful one showing up today from you lol! The Terrarian really has me interested too though lol.

Would you recommend the regular or legendary Terrarian?

Dang, that’s so funny, I do so many trades and sales in the BST that I can’t even remember who I do them with, lol.

I know you’ll love it, and like everyone else said, you can’t go wrong with Onedrop. Look at the shapes of the various models and jump on whichever strikes your eye.

If it were me, I’d be hunting down a rebirth since you got the Intro. It takes their old school Project yoyos that gave them their claim to Fame and revamps them to modern standards so that you get a taste of where it all came from and a taste of where it’s at now all in one throw.

And a Markmont Classic or MCMO because it blew the hinges off the door and continues too.

Very cool, the Rebirth looks awesome as well. All of OD stuff looks really amazing and top notch. I’m excited to explore the line and find out what I love.

I’ll say the same, any One Drop you can get will be awesome. I’ve got a couple of rows in my case and they’re fantastic.

I agree with the previous comments. I would reinforce that you should pick a design that is visually appealing to you - if you really love the yoyo that will motivate you to play it more. As you get better, you may find that another design is more suited to your needs and that’s fine. You need to start somewhere. Have fun and best of luck!

The lunar eclipse has a nice basic shape, and is long spinning. Good for learning, a little bit on the heavy side, but smooth. I like mine anyway.

I’m really excited about the Intro and Nitro! Those look like great shapes and like like how they play different while being a similar shapes.

Yes and yes, I don’t have either of them but I really like the look of both of them. They have a similar shape to the Markmont Classic which is a yoyo that I really like. I think either or both of those are a good choice. :+1:

Simple answer, get what looks coolest to you.

My suggestion is to snag a Terrarian right now since they’re in stock. It’s a very fun throw, super floaty, and great introduction to One Drop, Side Effects, and OD’s feel like; plus it’s got insane DPS. I would also only buy brand new for my first OD throw experience.
