value in a yoyo can also be more than monetary, and can fluctuate dramatically. yoyos will mean different things to different people, and the value they associate to that can vary… lots of people want(ed) a chief for a hot minute. i’d wager (no offense meant) that most younger teenage kids that were after them weren’t nostalgic, most older cats familiar w/og clyw weren’t ones to take them for a whirl for the first time… and, there were some people like wtf is all the chief hype about, and why should i pay $110+ for an old clyw yoyo? playability, vintage, etc. are all playing a huge factor. but, there’s the emotional factors - nostalgia, curiosity, fomo, whatever… that will impact price, and sometimes permanently. longevity of a brand, and/or what you can say about the company itself in the end will determine what will help retain overall value.
