I did this for a while, or I would go to a double or nothing first. Then I just grinded out getting into 1.5, and it’s probably my favorite mount to work from now
Thats what I used to think, just keep practicing and it’ll ‘click’ one of these days. I learned to use a spare finger to keep the strings separated when I drop in; makes it much easier to land on the preferred string. Currently I’m working on whipping into a Kamikaze mount from rest.
lol
…
I’m right there with you! I don’t have much of an issue getting the string rejection…it’s landing the yo on the back string.
This video has helped me a lot…turns out I’ve been turning my throw hand a tad bit. When I hold it like he shows in the video without tilting…it’s a lot easer to land on the string.
So I just threw in front of someone for the first time today since I jumped back into this hobby.
I’m working with a life coach of sorts who’s been helping me get through some rough times since my mom’s passed…and she’s just great at keeping me on track and motivating me.
So I decided to finally pull my yo out for her.
It was kinda neat…because I started with front style…and my mind just went blank and I was just throwing wthout thought. And somehow it all came together. Real basic stuff, but I was doing split the atom but adding it more twists and tossing the yo between strings and all sorts of weird things. It’s like I was on auto pilot…I was just doing with no thought.
It felt pretty damn neat! Especially because it all worked out somehow haha.
Then went to side style and did a combo I’ve been working on that combines skin the gerbal, rewind and cold fusion along with some pinwheels and other things to add a bit of flair…and I messed up the first go around…then I went blank again, and just did the trick…though I did miss the landing at the end.
Was exciting! I was nervous!! I’m not very good!
Her eyes were so bright and she had such a genuinely big grin on her face! I could almost see her inner child in her face haha!
She said she hasn’t seen a yoyo since she was a kid…and all they did back then was go up and down!
I’m thinking of starting a topic to track progress working through Yuuki Spencer tricks. I figured it would keep me motivated and might be interesting for others. Anyone on board for that?
I say go for it!
You’ll be able to get advice and suggestions…and you’ll likely inspire others to work on the tricks too!
Plus it sounds like a great way to see how far you’re progressing!
I’m nervous to post these…I’m pretty self conscious about how huge I am. /sigh…it’s only become more of a problem for me too over the last 2 years since my mom’s passed. Really hit food hard there for a solid 6 months after trying to stuff things down.
But here goes…
Here’s some progress I’m making.
Kwyjibo and Kamikaze were the bane of my yoing existence years ago when I was into the hobby. My lack of progress on the tricks were part of what ended up getting me to quit.
But…I’m now making progress!!! It helps that I’m not even remotely close to as hard on myself like I use to be.
Also…sorry for the crap video quality…I don’t do enough with videos to want to spend any money on better equipment lol.
Here’s me landing a Magic Drop…(no audio on this one as the song I was listening to had used the f’bomb like 20’ish times every 2 seconds haha)
Here’s me landing a Kwyjibo:
And here’s a little combo I’ve been working on that I’ve had a hard time describing with words. It’s really fun to pull off…even though I know it’s SUPER simple for a lot of you guys out there. Uses bits of skin the gerbil with rewind and a cold fusion:
Nice dude! I’m not sure if you feel comfortable going for this yet, but a super fun trick to do that’s not overly technical I would recommend learning at some point is branding.
