What trick are you working on?

Fun to reflect on the process, isn’t it? I actually got only as far as braintwister back during the boom, and I thought that was the ****. Now it seems so basic. Just a year from now I will look back at how I thought the stuff I am working on now was so tough.

I was actually just watching some of my old youtube videos…like back in 2011 or so. I thought I was doing good then but it was almost painful to watch as I jerked the yoyo around with no flow, threw it kind of weird (I had a tough time throwing side style so I held the yoyo sideways in my hand like I was twisting a doorknob), etc…and I could only watch me boingy boing and kwijibo so many times before I skipped to next. That said, it is fun to record tricks as it’s fun to look back visually. I’ve even rediscovered old tricks of mine I forgot just so I can modify those!

Here’s where I am at on Cold Fusion 24 hours later. Making progress! Video is only about half as long as yesterday’s - says something.

Decided to give ninja vanish a shot. I’ve hit it once more after this one, but it still feels like pure luck. Any pointers?

From a complete noob, I don’t know what my advice is worth, but I’ve found shifting my hands on the nth side helps: it’s more of a “slack to the left” thing than “slack to the front”.

I tried to make a vid to explain what I meant.
First 2 (failed) attempts right in front of me, then on my left and it works better.

I would use my whole hand to whip the yo-yo not just my first finger, it spaces out the string more so you can hit it easier. I also agree with @rv06 that it’s more of a whip to the left and yo-yo to the right instead of whip to the front. Hope this helps!

I am working on [over under Boing e Boing].
the speed I swing it over and under is not equal to the normal Boing e Boing.
Which make it not smooth.
But am making progression.

It started off as one of Yoyojoe’s trick on Youtube but I think I’m messing up somewhere along the line…(or as I say, venturing on my own path with the trick). Here’s what I’ve been playing with…and added challenge with my One Drop Clique.

Started on plastic whip/gyroscopic flop yesterday:

It’s a work in progress. Wait for it…

This is something new for me. Probably the most ‘tech’ I’ve got as far as tricks I like go

Top one - great! Bottom one - it’s nice to see that kind of stuff and a reminder that we all fail, fail, fail to get to the success. Something like that.

You made it sound like that video was not going to blow my mind. That was really smokin. Good job.

Thank you! It’s just a new trick for me. The stole/rev hook are old but everything else I’m trying to smooth out.

Among other things, working on a basic laceration bind. A pretty new thing for me, so I was just messing around and not expecting it to work. Well, it did and I took a Juggernaut to the knuckles. Just wish I had been recording so I had a gem to share here. Best part was holding in a tidal wave of profanity for my 2 year-old’s sake.

I’ve been perfecting my Mel Hops recently, it’s just such a nice trick to show people and adding some variants makes it even cooler! Aside from that just trying to invent some new tech.

Been working on refining wormhole, laceration bind (if memory serves, that’s what it’s called), and the chopsticks mount). Took a few minutes to throw in the snow today.
