I regret getting my Protostar. It has been giving me problems since day 1.
I regret getting my Pocket Change. It is one of the worst yoyos I have ever seen.

tell me about it, YYF really needs to step up in quality control.

Worst yoyo I’ve gotten, that would probably be the flying Panda. I threw it for the first time after I opened it, not only did the string break but the yoyo split apart. Once I got the spacers, bearing, new string, etc. I noticed cracks on the rubber on the yoyo. Which surprised me because I was throwing over marble. A few days later, the response had worn off, which I found frustrating to constantly buy Duncan Friction Stickers, then a few days later same thing happened that had happened on day 1, but this time, I lost the cheap, loose spacers. So I had to buy an axle kit, which I found useless seeing that I only had three cheap Duncan throws (Throw Monkey, Metal Drifter, and Flying Panda) so I donated the rest to my cousin, who was modding his FH.

Second worst purchase was the YYF Whip. The day I got it, it looked cool, I liked how smooth it was and I liked the shape too. But some rocket scientist decided to put in a super skin tight bearing seat on the yoyo. As a result of this, the bearing cracked, which cut the string, and rolled down a road. The thing was pretty beat, and to make matters worse, it had gone from super slight plastic vibe, to full on wobble. And that isn’t the end of it, because many of you guys know what happens next. Yup, the whip shatters and nearly blinds me on my left eye. Luckily I had my contacts on so it was really no damage, but you will notice a scar on my chin from the plastic that got past skin deep.

Those are pretty much the worst purchases I’ve ever experienced. And that’s why to this day, I don’t trust YYF or Duncan.

The plastic yoyo shattered the Outer race of the steel bearing causing the string to break which caused a plastic which doesn’t break with sharp corners to fly up and hit you in the chin and eye?

@jonQ: raiders can’t be outperformed by whips or classic. They’re for completely different play styles. I’ve never used a heavy wing, so can’t comment on that.

You’re right but you still have to mod the raider for it to be good for 2a.

Expensive YYF throws are incredible. My Catalyst is one of my favorite yoyos. I have played a few Supernovas as well that I thought were amazing.

My only issue is the 3 plastic YYF throws I own have all broke at some point.

The Pocket Change shattered when I unscrewed it. I ended up super glueing the thing for an hour. Once it was all glued together, It still didn’t play nice.

The Loop900 I got broke the second I tried to adjust the gap. Luckily for me the guys here at YoYoExpert immediately replaced it. The 2nd one works fine. Its a fun looper.

The Protostar’s death grip on the bearing is a real issue due to the fact the axle won’t come out. I got my OD 10 ball stuck on the axle side, so the YYF multitool can’t remove it. After many attempts with the freezer / plier method… I just gave up. I ended up marring the axle in my attempts to remove the bearing, and the yoyo no longer plays smooth.

In contrast, my YoYoJam Classic and Adegle PSG both cost less than my YYF plastics… And those bad boys are bulletproof! (Not to mention they actually play great!)

I wish YYF would do some quality control with their cheap throws.

EDIT: This is not meant to be a hateful rant… but the yoyo community (especially new-comers) deserve the right to know about our problems with certain yoyos! YYE sells many amazing throws, it’s not like we are hurting their business by telling our horror stories.

What I am trying to say is these problems shouldn’t happen in the first place!
I never said that YYFactory’s customer service was bad. Just that their cheaper throws love to break. (At least the ones I have had.)

Going through the hassle of returning a $15 yoyo that didnt even play well when it was working just seems like a waste of time to me. I just chalked it up to experience and moved on I suppose.

How does a steel bearing crack on a plastic bearing seat? If it were that tight, it would be the other way around. Your string snapped? Okay, that happens, not the yoyo’s fault. It shattered on your face? This is polycarb, not blown glass. On the Panda, you are mad it got aesthetic damage from hitting a hard surface repeatedly? You blame the yoyo when you lost the spacers? You are mad the cheapest pads need to be replaced? It is like $8 for a 24 pack.

I could care less if you have a YYJ bias, but you can’t hate on other companies, especially when grasping at teeth like this.

when was I YYJ bias? These are really the only bad experiences I’ve ever had. I’m not hating on other companies, I just don’t like YYF and Duncan. I’d love to try out other companies, I’d love to own CLYW, OD, Square Wheels, MFD, etc. but I just don’t like YYF and Duncan. I throw YYJ because I want to get sponsored by them, and another reason that you wouldn’t understand. Heck, only one person, one person on forums knows that other reason. Once I get my YYJ sponsor (if I get it) ill start buying other companies. But for the mean time I wanna focus on YYJ only right know.

Only using YYJ yoyos won’t make YYJ any more likely to sponsor you. Sponsors mostly consider two things when sponsoring a player - What you can do for the company/community, and talent. How you represent the company/community is usually more important.

If YYJ considers you sponsor worthy, whether or not you spent your days only buying YYJ will be the last thing they consider.

As for the purchase I regret most, that would be a turning point by turning point. Played great, but it has some wonky non standard response system that made the yoyo a hassle.

How is that the yoyo’s or yyf’s fault at all?
if I throw a vase against the wall and it breaks, does it mean it was a bad vase? Am I gonna say the company makes bad quality vases and I won’t trust them anymore? No
yyf and duncan have both done more for yoyoing on their own than most other companies combined. I’ve only ever gotten one defective product from yyf before, and they went above and beyond their call of order to remedy the situation.

And what jake elliott said is correct, companies don’t sponsor people because they only buy their products. That doesn’t even factor into it. Heck, even company owners buy other brands.

The thing was pretty beat, and to make matters worse, it had gone from super slight plastic vibe, to full on wobble. And that isn’t the end of it, because many of you guys know what happens next. Yup, the whip shatters and nearly blinds me on my left eye. Luckily I had my contacts on so it was really no damage, but you will notice a scar on my chin from the plastic that got past skin deep.

Those are pretty much the worst purchases I’ve ever experienced. And that’s why to this day, I don’t trust YYF or Duncan.

The plastic yoyo shattered the Outer race of the steel bearing causing the string to break which caused a plastic which doesn’t break with sharp corners to fly up and hit you in the chin and eye?

I hit a wall doing an Eli hop. I was bored and had nothing else to do, and it cut me, not hit me. I’d much rather it had hit me then cut me.

How is that the yoyo’s or yyf’s fault at all?
if I throw a vase against the wall and it breaks, does it mean it was a bad vase? Am I gonna say the company makes bad quality vases and I won’t trust them anymore? No
yyf and duncan have both done more for yoyoing on their own than most other companies combined. I’ve only ever gotten one defective product from yyf before, and they went above and beyond their call of order to remedy the situation.

And what jake elliott said is correct, companies don’t sponsor people because they only buy their products. That doesn’t even factor into it. Heck, even company owners buy other brands.

I honestly don’t care. If that’s what I believe, that’s what I believe.

I don’t really have a purchase I have regretted. I do have yo-yos that I felt could have played better than they did. The Galactic Goose comes to mind. I found that the rims detracted from play more than added a novel new experience. When I wanted to hit the rims I could do so easily and land Eli Hops on them or a Ninja Vanish to the rims. The problem was that since the rims were so easy to hit when I wanted to they were also extremely easy to hit by mistake as well, causing the yo-yo to go completely whopper-jawed in an instant. This is all quite unfortunate because when the play did go smoothly the Galactic Goose played amazing.

It’s not really any of my business, so forgive me if I am intruding. I just thought it is worth mentioning that it will be hard to get sponsored by YYJ if you publicy display your dislike for other yoyo manufacturers.

How, I’m not shouting it out to the world “I HATE YYF!” In fact, I don’t hate YYF, I dislike YYF. I buy YYF pads all the time. I don’t think they would turn me down just because I said “I dislike YYF” everyone has their own opinions.

exactly, that’s why I don’t say “I hate YYF” hate is a string word. I dislike YYFs yoyos, but I think that they’re pads are great! I’d prefer YYF pads over YYJ pads any day.
