I developed the same habit back when I used to make Cookies all the time; my brother enjoyed baking them more than I do, so now he gets to bake us all Cookies twice a week.
What yoyos do you typically play with? Cuda is relatively heavy. Just curious
My Favorites are the OG SE Capstan, Freehand MG, and the Halyard.
So, I guess I like Medium - Heavyweight Organics.
Edit: I’ve also been having a lot of fun with my Campfire.
Edit 2: Whoops, Halyard isn’t organic, still my 3rd favorite.
Can relate but slightly different issue. I use nylon strings and they last waaaaay longer than normal strings, and I used to prematurely replace them all the time . But now I’m in a state where I never know if I should actually change them or not, so I’ll keep throwing for another 5 extra days or so when I’m mad dubious about it haha.
Extra pet peeve is the hours it takes for my nylon strings to fully stretch out
slack tricks.
- Its either i dont have neutral string torsion
- I dont have a whippy enough string
- Or i cant land them.
Thats basically it
Getting a new throw and needing to clean the bearing right away. I just want to play with my new yoyo!
On that note, no matter how much I narrow down my interests and how few new releases draw me in, I could still drop a couple thousand over time on some RSO or old Anti-Yo for a few yo-yos and spend an exhausting amount of time and energy hunting them down.
In this vein, I haven’t met a stock pad I liked from any company, I just rip them out and put in ultra grey. Any new yoyo has a 24 hr waiting period before I can really get into it.
I just found out about ultra grey. What a game changer
It’s really amazing to me how much better I like it. Just a slight recess and everything responds as I expect and rarely do I have an unintended bind or snag unless the string is dying.
Eze fix.
Buy bulk bearings, clean those. Drop them in the new throw, clean the new bearing, and throw it in the bag/bin/bucket/jar of other bearings
Biggest pet peeve rn is lack of chest shots from tuts. I didn’t realize how rare it was until someone commented how bizarre it looked on one of my vids haha. But I think they do a great job of helping see all the strings from a pov angle. Idk why more people don’t use it, I’ll see some pov tuts and be mad confused what string is what but sometimes that other angle makes it sooooo much clearer.
The short form video type of content that has helped yo-yoing grow in the West seems to also coincide with a lack of growth outside of 1a and other styles being even more overshadowed than in the past
I think I disagree with that, could you elaborate a bit more? I started yoyoing because I saw angel2up on my yt shorts and I remember thinking it was super cool when he showed what soloham was. I think they’re a great gateway into getting into yoyoing and thus can be introduced to other styles of play.
Tho if u want to know my take on why that is, I think its because of the lack of solid tutorials for them. I criticize 1a tuts A LOT, as I feel a lot of them just do the trick and don’t explain, and thus are very frustrating to get into. And so the idea of doing that for an even nicher style of play sounds awful haha. And sure u can link some good tuts on the other styles, but it’s a fact that It lacks nearly the same variety as with 1a. And I really feel that with the new gens getting into yoyoing through tiktok and such, they aren’t going to be as tolerant to want to learn from 10+ year old tuts
Edit: to add on a bit more too, I’ve tried 3a, but can’t afford to try out 4a rip, but I’ve also tried out 5a too. What I wrote above is my personal experience and what I can imagine others that got into the space from tiktok and a like may feel. But if not for yt shorts, I would’ve never tried out 3a or even 1a to begin with
