Hahaha there’s masters and then there’s MASTERS… (and THEN there’s me somewhere well beneath all that lol). Dennis is true legend and a kind soul to boot! Someday I’ll score an Aspen (or not) - all good.
So I heard there are metallic painted Tom Kuhn 3-in-1s… anyone got pics? There’s a green one on the Yo-Yo Museum website but I’d love to see nice pics of the metallic painted in all colors, if anyone has them and can oblige me?
The metallic were a short run in solid colors: Blue, Green and Red with an ultra limited run of Prowler Purple. I have yet to see a red where the paint hasn’t cracked over time. The harder ones to find were the mistake series that were standard colors missing the stripe - solid blue, solid red, and solid black. These are distinguishable from the later blue and red stained versions, which show the wood grain through the stain.
So, I’ve got these two no jives:
One has 3 in 1 written on both halves and one has custom YoYos on the other half. One is obviously darker too. Are they different runs? Does anyone know how far apart the runs would be?
I’ve had the lighter one for longer which was brand new when I got it.
OK Fam I have a painted 3-in-1, and I want to love it. I love the weight, I love the finish, I even kinda like the color though I’m not usually a fan of blue. My problem is responsiveness, or lack thereof. I can barely even wind the thing in imperial mode. Should I rough up the finish on the inside? Butterfly mode is fine, and I suspect it’s due to the engraving.
I would get some Tom kuhn turbo disks for it instead of roughing it up.
But I want it to be good NOOOOWWWWWW
One of the metallic green ones just showed up on eBay.

Bidding now! Need me that Slytherin edition.
John Rollins (KC Jewel) used to sand the gaps on the painted No Jives he nodded and they played awesome.
Outsider of ones that where modded, what was the best playing No Jive out of the box? Laminated butterfly? Original San Fran’s?
I think the knife cuts work better TBH. Low end starburst but it really works
For my money the “No Jive Special” stamped Clean Machines. I’ve played 3 and they have all been incredible. I got one from Jason Tracy and another from Steve Brown (finished in tung oil) and they are my two best playing, best feeling No Jives.
Laminates are smooth but heavy/dense. Mid 80’s SF’s are generally pretty great. I’d also put the butterfly-config Sunburst Mandala’s way up there.
Butterfly Sunburst Mandala? As in the engraving is in the inside? Or the one where the engraving is outside? I’ve always thought that the engraving would be too much to flip it butterfly.
The No Jive Special Clean Machine I got from Jason is my best playing No Jive as well. It’s really, really good.
No, engraving on the outside. One of the few (non camel) butterfly configs. Super cool and the 3 I’ve had have all been killer.
And hey Play Simply was no slouch! /bias
yes but I am incapable of playing simply
and i can prove it too (that’s my … uhhh… actual… everything in that pic)
Can we patch this out at the source-code level? Thanks in advance
