Throwers who play/ practice while seated: what can I do to make this feel less awkward

I can’t play the knuckle yo as a yoyo. It’s currently beglirie beads as the size is a bit much for a knuckle bone for me. It’s just too wide.

There is a neat one shell YoYo made that’s very playable and between a flea and panzer. Can’t post link here but it’s surprisingly good.

I also have a kun and it slips much like the flea. It’s just annoying to bind.

Oh was given a Shell Macaron, is it that? It’s a great undersized little guy, and the finish feels really unique, like I’d imagine one of the rougher cerakotes feel.

The knuckleyo is tempting because I like weird things like that, but I have heard many say it is nearly unplayable lol

Incredible! So cute.

I tried responsifying my knuckleyo but now it comes up like once instead of never coming up ever. Maybe I can 3d print a blank that will give it better response, or an mr85 adapter for it or something.

I sometimes throw over my non throw hand because of the long strings. I saw a video of Gentry do it in his video of doing tricks in a car, and you see it starting at 2:30.

Stools are the best way to play while seated IMO. Or the highest chair you can find.

Yeah I have heard of people playing in a car, and this was kinda what spurred this thought. How can playing in a chair be so awkward when YoYo can be done in a car lol

Also on mini yo-yos zipline microline is the best mini yoyo string I’ve used. Anything smaller just make it yourself. I don’t like flea string at all. Can’t ever find it but whatever string came with the micro shell YoYo was good too but no reason to even call it out.

My thoughts exactly. Already enough nazi-crap around, if intended or not.

To Kyles @SlowThrow original question:

Did anybody already mention a barstool?

 :point_right:

I’m also interested in this, as standing can be difficult due to my various ailments. Responsive is definitely less awkward to play while sitting, but still a bit of a shoulder workout. I guess I could sit on my roof and play… On second thought, maybe I’ll take some foam weather stripping for the garage door and pad a bar stool.

On your breakaway, pull up rapidly with your TH and you can also add wraps around your hand at the same time. Pulling up rapidly will also help you get extra power on your throw.

If you’re actually interested in playing more side style while sitting down I’d just get comfortable doing this rather than opting for a weird crutch like hubstacks, which certainly works but is going to limit what yoyos you can play with. And changing what type of chair you sit on I don’t think is a great solution either, since it limits where you can sit and play. Just get comfortable with throwing a breakaway while pulling up and adding wraps so you can play anywhere with any yoyo.

When I’m yoyoing while sitting down I typically throw fronstyle so I can just throw a strong sleeper over my NTH which keeps everything elevated. And if I’m throwing while sitting down I tend to just do more brain off autopilot yoyoing, which leans towards frontstyle heavily for me.

I will have to try these techniques, thank you!

I recorded this video while ago. I won’t lie, it is very difficult to play it as a yoyo, but once you do a couple of tricks it feels nice :sunglasses:

Fair when I say unplayable I should note unplayable at my skill level. Lol

Your skills far surpass my own, super impressive. I can’t even get it to spin for more than 3 seconds :joy: I still pick it up and try every now and then though.

I mean I buy every yoyo you put out, and have your site permanently open in a tab to regularly check for restocks of some models, so I didn’t think you would put out an impossible yoyo, it’s just maybe impossible for me.

Take a look at Nate’s review. He explains very well how the knuckleyo works in both formations as a yoyo and as a knuckle roller.

You can also take a look at Dylan’s review:

This is straight up valid information from a guy that’s been standing while working for longer than most of your parents have been alive>

What Angie said was very good advice. A barstool high enough to give you the vertical clearance as you might have standing up…… no armrests in the way, etc…. Excellent.

That being said, there is a shortcoming even to that.

When you stand for hours, gravity has the effect of putting a great deal of pressure on all the veins in your legs. When you are young, you can get away with that simply because the linings of your veins and arteries are thicker and more resilient.

As you get older, your lower extremities are more susceptible to the effects of the blood pressure, causing lower leg edema, coupled with the associated pain and fatigue that results.

So…. When you get home after a LONG day of Standing, it’s ’Not A good idea’ to yo-yo while sitting. Sitting still keeps your legs in what is considered a ‘Dependant position’ and even though not as bad as standing, is still a position that will cause continued adverse effects on your system.

A better plan would be that after you spend 8+ hours ‘standing while working’, once returning home you either lie down or sit down with your feet above the level of your read end.

If you sit down, put your ankles higher than your belly button. If you lie down, put a pillow under your heels to keep your ankles above your chest.

You need to ‘release’ the pressure in your lower extremities.

Use the following example for a deeper logical understanding.

You like to do headstands. Matter of fact, you Love to do headstands. So…. You’re home alone… there’s nobody in the living room…. And you suddenly are on your head.

10 seconds… 20 seconds… 30 seconds…. Going for a record, hell yeah!

Everything is good… then after a few minutes, you start to feel the veins in your head swelling up. Another minute passes and you feel like your heartbeat is centered in your Eyeballs. Then as every several seconds goes by and your are sure a vein in your head is going to Pop, the World head standing record doesn’t seem like a good idea, lol

Obviously because people don’t have a spare of eyeballs on the bottom of their feet, the sensation of the pressure is not as dramatic, but the results of gravity are similar.

So… bottom line is simple. Work All Day standing. You get home and sit down or lie down for even a half hour, an hour is even better. You interrupt the cycle of constant lower leg pressure. Keep your mind active. Get your IPad or Tab or Mac or whatever… and watch yo-yo videos while you are in a sitting or lying position. It will help keep your focus and make the time pass faster.

Remember… to stay hydrated. Your water intake level has a direct effect on your blood viscosity.

Once you have relaxed your system, throwing your yo-yo around will actually go better. You just have to break that ‘Standing Cycle’.

No doubt, I will lose some of the players with my view on this matter. Because some people just know everything, even if they don’t, lol.

But, I have spend decades studying how the human body works. I am no Doctor and don’t profess to be.

But I know some stuff. And my little presentation here just didn’t come to me in a Dream.

I just know how some things ‘work’.

This is actually really great advice. I have a genetic condition that effects the blood vessels in my extremities and basically takes docs eyeball example and applies it to my feet. Stand for 10 minutes, toes start feeling like they are gonna pop. Before doctors (other than yoyo ones) found some treatments to help sometimes toes did pop.

I use methods like what doc described to relieve the pressure in between standing sessions. Yoyo 20 minutes, feet elevated 20 minutes. Repeat. I can’t do stools because the dependent position is just as bad for me as standing.
